The Valley Independent Monday, January 22, 1996 JOSEPH TINY WIEHL, NOTED FOOTBALL PLAYER Joseph Tiny WIEHL, 85, of North Charleroi, died Sunday, Jan 21, 1996, in the Mon Valley Hospital, Carroll Township. He was born Jan 30, 1910, in Coal Center, a son of the late John and Sarah WIEHL. Mr WIEHL moved from Coal Center to Knoxville area of Pittsburgh at an early age. Upon the death of his father, the family moved to Dunlevy. He attended Charleroi High School where he was an outstanding football player. He was elected team captain of the Cougar football team during his senior year. After graduating in 1930 he attended Washington and Jefferson College for one year. He then went to Duquesne University on a football scholarship where he graduated with a BS degree in education in 1935. He was an outstanding football player at Duquesne and participated in the 1934 Orange Blossom Bowl, now known as the Orange Bowl. Upon graduation in 1935 he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates (Steelers) where he played offensive and defence tackle. He retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Allenport Plant. Mr WIEHL was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Charleroi, a member and former secretary of the Mens Bible Class of the church, charter member and past president of the North Charleroi Lions Club, a member and treasurer of the North Charleroi Toast to Our Stars with 36 years of service and serving as the toastmaster of the banquet for several years. He also was a member of the BPOE Lodge No 494 of Charleroi and the Slavic Citizens Club of North Charleroi. He was an original member of the Charleroi Hall of Fame and was an inductee in 1986. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Claudia WIEHL of North Charleroi; a granddaughter, Kimberly Jo WIEHL. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Betty MIKSCH WIEHL; a grandson, Joseph WIEHL III; and two brothers, Allen FOWKES and Winfield WIEHL. Friends will be received today from 7 to 9 pm and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm in the Schrock-Hogan Funeral Home Inc, 226 Fallowfield Ave, Charleroi. Funeral services will be announced in Tuesdays edition. DR DAVID DUNLEVY Dr David K DUNLEVY, 43, of 2326 Raleigh Drive, Lancaster, died Friday, Jan 19, 1996, after an illness of the past year. Born in Monongahela, he was a son of Kenneth B and Mary Lou NAGY DUNLEVY of Fairfield, Conn. A self-employed dentist in Wyomissing, he had owned the Reading Family Dental Center since 1987. Previously, he had a dental practice in Greensburg. Dr DUNLEVY was a member of the American Dental Association and the Pennsylvania Dental Association. A 1970 graduate of Andrew Ward High School in Fairfield, Conn, he was a 1974 graduate of St Vincent College where he earned a degree in biology. He was a 1979 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. He had earned the Eagle Scout award. Dr DUNLEVY was a member of St John Neumann Roman Catholic Church. He and his wife, Patricia L CLAWSON DUNLEVY, observed their 19th wedding anniversary on Aug 21. In addition to his wife and parents, survivors include two daughters, Cassandra K and Tara A, both at home; and two brothers, Kevin J of Milford, Conn, and Mark C of Fairfield, Conn. GEORGE P KYLE George P KYLE, 78, of 724 Speer St, North Belle Vernon, died Saturday, Jan 20, 1996, in Kenric Manor, Donora. He was born in West Union, W Va, April 22, 1917, a son of the late George P and Germaine CASTINE KYLE. Mr KYLE was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Belle Vernon, the Monongahela Historic Society, Three Rivers Tool Collectors, Ohio Tool Collectors, Early American Industrial Association and the National Pike Steam and Horse Association of Brownsville. A lifelong resident of Belle Vernon, he retired in 1982 from the blooming mill of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel; where he was a roller in the Monessen Plant. Surviving are his wife, Ethel ROSE KYLE, with whom he celebrated 54 years of marriage on April 7, 1995; one son and daughter-in-law, George P and Sherry KYLE III of Washington Township; one daughter, Mrs Bruce (Toni) USHER of Belle Vernon; two brothers, Eugene KYLE of Rockford, Ill, and Ralph J KYLE of Winter Haven, Fla; one sister, Elmira STEER of Belle Vernon; and two grandchildren, Ryan USHER and Justin KYLE. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Robert and Charles; two sisters, Grace MUSTYBROOK and Denise PALUSO; and a granddaughter, Jennifer USHER. BYRON W COX Funeral services were held Sunday for Byron W COX, 86, of Fredericktown RD 1, Deemstown Borough, who died Friday, Jan 19, 1996, in Washington Hospital. He was born June 27, 1909, in Marianna, a son of the late Walter and Jessie GAYMAN COX. Mr COX was a member of Christian Church of Marianna. He was a retired employee of Clyde Mine in Fredericktown and was a member of the United Mine Workers of America. Mr COX enjoyed gardening and raised Christmas trees for many years. Surviving are one son, Robert C COX of West Alexander; one daughter, Peggy WILSON of Washington; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret CRAWFORD COX, who died Jan 27, 1985, one brother and one sister. SUSAN DEZARN Susan DEZARN, 46, of Rostraver Township RD 2, formerly of Monongahela, died Sunday, Jan 21, 1996, at home. Born Jan 1, 1950, in New Eagle, she was a daughter of late Bert and Cecelia MCALISTER. She had attended Monongahela High School. She is survived by her husband, Edward DEZARN, with whom she celebrated 15 years of marriage on April 26, 1995. Also surviving are two daughters, Lori PROSSER at home and Nan DAVID of Monessen; one son, Kevin David of Texas; four grandchildren; two brothers, Bert MCALISTER of Pittsburgh and Brian MCALISTER of Pittsburgh; and two sisters, Linda MCALISTER of Fayette City and Mrs Jack (Debra) JOBES of Charleroi. She was born Sept 14, 1911, in Athens, Ohio, a daughter of the late Zern and Emma HAZELBAKER HELLYER. Mrs GREENAWALT was a member of the Rehoboth Presbyterian Church, Rostraver Township. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, S Rankin GREENAWALT in 1982; and a brother, Clarence HELLYER.
