    3. SCANLON, DICKSON, LIRA, MCCLURE, JOHNSON, MURPHY, GRAHAM, HAYS, SCHIEFELBEIN The Rev. Charles SCANLON, the noted Presbyterian temperance leader who died in Pittsburgh on Sunday, appeared a number of times in recent years in the pulpit of the McDonald Presbyterian church. James A. DICKSON, aged 58 years, 10 months, 19 days, a resident of Muse, died Sunday morning, March 20, 1927, in the Canonsburg hospital. He is survived by his wife. The body was shipped to Fairmont, W. Va., where funeral services were held. Victor LIRA, of Cecil, 45 years old, was killed instantly when he was struck by a freight train of the Pittsburgh & West Virginia railroad at Cecil Monday afternoon, March 21, 1927. His body was badly mangled. He was united in marriage on the 13th of November last year with Mrs. Rosie BOURGUIGMON, whose husband was killed in a mine July 28, 1923. She is left with four children of the first marriage. Alexander C. MCCLURE, aged 77 years, for over half a century one of the leading business men of Burgettstown, died at his home at 3:15 o'clock Saturday afternoon, March 19, 1927. Mr. MCCLURE was a son of Dr. Robert and Eleanor Ruth MCCLURE and was born in Washington June 3, 1849. He was in the hardware business in Burgettstown for 53 years, retiring three years ago. He was a member of the First United Presbyterian church and active in the affairs of the congregation. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Nancy RANKIN MCCLURE, and four daughters: Mrs. Harry NESABIT of Union, N. J.; Mrs. W. T. PATTERSON of Fairchance, Mrs. C. F. GRAHAM of Pittsburgh, and Mrs. S. R. PATTERSON of Bellevue. Three children also survive. A brother, B. F. MCCLURE, died a few months ago. Funeral services were held at his late home Tuesday afternoon. The interment was in the Mt. Prospect cemetery. Emery W. William JOHNSON, aged 64 years, 3 months, and 12 days, died at 1:30 o'clock Thursday morning, March 24, 1927, at the home of his brother, Fred J. JOHNSON, in East Lincoln avenue, McDonald. Death was due to bronchitis and asthma. He had been ill since Saturday. Mr. JOHNSON was born in New York State. He was partially blind all his life and was never able to work. He lived part of the time with his brother, Walter B. JOHNSON, in Oklahoma, and spent the rest of the time in McDonald. Two years ago he left McDonald, where he had spent three years, and went to Oklahoma. Mr. WALTER JOHNSON died three months ago and was buried in McDonald. Mr. Emery JOHNSON had been here since that time. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at two o'clock in the JOHNSON home in East Lincoln avenue, conducted by the Rev. Dr. W. D. IRONS, pastor of the First United Presbyterian church of McDonald. Interment will be in Robinson's Run cemetery. Charles A. MURPHY, veteran city patrolman, passed away Saturday, March 12, 1927, at 4:15 o'clock, at his home at 389 Liberty street. Mr. MURPHY was taken ill and forced to give up his work on December 14. He had failed rapidly since. Mr. MURPHY came to Conneaut twenty-two years ago and was employed by the P. & C. Dock Company for a time. He later took a position as patrolman in the city police department, which he held for nineteen years. Most of his work was on the harbor beat and he grew to love it. He will be sorely missed among the harbor residents. He was a man of quiet disposition but with a rare sense of humor and he made a host of friends during his residence in Conneaut who will be deeply grieved to learn of his passing. Mr. MURPHY was a devout member of St. Mary's church and of Conneaut Council No. 627, Knights of Columbus. He was born in Onoville, N. Y., and was 67 years of age. He is survived by his aged mother, Mrs. Mary MURPHY, who whom he resided, also four brothers and two sisters: the Rev. Fr. Joseph R. MURPHY of Harrisburg, Pa., William E. MURPHY of Humbolt, Kansas, James L. MURPHY of McDonald, PA., P. H. MURPHY of Conneaut, Mrs. John MANEY of Ashtabula, Ohio, and Mrs. Maurice MANEY of Conneaut. Funeral services were held at eight o'clock Tuesday morning, March 15, in St. Mary's church, Conneaut. His brother, the Rev. Joseph R. MURPHY officiated. The body was taken to Randolph, N. Y., for interment. *Conneaut News, Conneaut, Ohio Perry and Chris HYSER returned to McDonald Tuesday from Chicora, where they attended the funeral of their brother-in-law, Mr. GRAHAM, on Monday. There sister, Mrs. PURDY, who had been there since Sunday, returned home with them. Joseph Parker HAYS, aged 70 years, died recently at his home in Milwaukee, Wis. He was the oldest son of William Vance and Emily Lorraine HAYS. L. C. HAYS of Imperial is a brother. The body was brought to Imperial, where funeral services were held Thursday. *Montour Valley column Mr. and Mrs. William F. SCHIEFELBEIN and daughter Gertrude drove to Meadville, Crawford county, on Saturday to attend the funeral of Mr. SCHIEFELBEIN's brother, Herman SCHIEFELBEIN, who was killed when a tree he was cutting fell on him at his home in Hayfield township, Crawford county. He leaves three sons, a daughter, five grandchildren, and a brother, all of Meadville, also eight nephews and five nieces. *Montour Valley column
