KUSH, HANCOCK, MCCARTNEY, MCCARTY, CHEESEBROUGH, WILSON Joseph KUSH, 77, formerly of Noblestown, died at 10:00 p.m., Monday, August 23, 1943, in the County Home at Woodville, following a four-day illness of pneumonia. He was a coal miner by occupation. Mr. KUSH was born in Lithuania and came to the United States 40 years ago. He had no living relatives. James Park HANCOCK, 75, died at 10:10 p.m. Tuesday, August 24, 1943, in the home of his son, Clyde HANCOCK, R. D. 1, McDonald, following a lingering illness. A son of the late David and Kathryn HIGHFIELD HANCOCK, he was born April 3, 1868, at Kelly Station, Armstrong county, and spent practically his entire life in the Sturgeon vicinity. He was a retired oil field worker. He and Susan Levina BANEY were married December 15, 1892 in Ford City by the Rev. W. W. HALL. She died October 30, 1937. Mr. HANCOCK is survived by two sons: Ralph HANCOCK of Butler and Clyde HANCOCK of R. D. 1, McDonald; three sisters: Mrs. Susan COOK, Mrs. Emma HEILMAN, and Miss Elizabeth HANCOCK, all of Kelly Station. There are five grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. this Friday in the Clyde HANCOCK home conducted by the Rev. F. T. JAMES, pastor of the McDonald and Noblestown Methodist churches. Burial will be in Robinson's Run cemetery. Anthony MCCARTNEY, 58, of 196 South McDonald street, McDonald, a former resident of the Washington district, died at 4 a.m. Monday, August 23, 1943, in the Mercy hospital, Pittsburgh. Mr. MCCARTNEY, employed as a machinist by B. D. TILLINGHAST, was born in Scotland. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Bessie MCCARTNEY; seven children: Mrs. Barbara FISHER of Cleveland, Mrs. Aldo MALTONY of Westland, Mrs. Ray DONAHUE, Mrs. Earl MARTIN, and Mrs. John DE SENSI of Washington, Mrs. Robert HARR of Claysville and Anthony MCCARTNEY in the U. S. Army and stationed in Hawaii; three brothers James MCCARTNEY of Ambridge, John MCCARTNEY of R. D. 1, Washington, and Samuel MCCARTNEY of Brier Hill, Fayette county, and three sisters: Mrs. Elizabeth HAMMOND of Washington, Mrs. Jessie Walters of Granville and Mrs. Ellen HARTLEY of Ambridge. Funeral services are being held this Thursday afternoon in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Aldo MALTONY, Westland, conducted by the Rev. H. J. SINCLAIR, pastor of the Second Christian church, Washington. Burial in the Washington cemetery. J. Kerr MCCARTY, 67, died at 5:00 a.m. Monday, August 23, 1943, in his home in Fourth street, McDonald, following an illness of several years. A son of John S. and Anna LINDSAY MCCARTY, he was born April 16, 1879 at Midway. His father embarked in the lumber business in 1879 at Midway and father and son had been in the lumber business almost continuously since, coming to McDonald in 1895. John S. MCCARTY was a staunch Democrat and served as postmaster at Midway under President CLEVELAND's first administration. He died January 23, 1918, and at his death J. Kerr MCCARTY incorporated the lumber business as the J. Kerr MCCARTY Co., and was its president until his death Monday. J. Kerr MCCARTY was active in community affairs and a number of years ago served as a member of the McDonald borough council and as a director of the McDonald Savings and Trust Co. He was a member of the First Presbyterian church. He is survived by his wife, Kate CAMPBELL MCCARTY, with whom he was united in marriage February 16, 1910, at Beaver; four sons: Robert G. MCCARTY and J. Kerr, Jr., both of McDonald, Aviation Cadet David C. MCCARTY, stationed with the Army air force at Miami Beach, Fla., and Cpl. Richard B. MCCARTY, stationed at Camp Edwards, Mass.; one daughter, Elizabeth, the wife of Ensign Louis E. THOMASSY of McDonald, and a brother, Robert B. MCCARTY of McDonald. There are three grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon in the MCCARTY home, conducted by the Rev. O. E. GARDNER, D. D., pastor of the First Presbyterian church, assisted by the Rev. F. T. JAMES, pastor of the McDonald Methodist church. Burial was in Robinson's Run cemetery. Charles C. CHEESEBROUGH, 77, died at 6:25 p.m. Friday, August 20, 1943, in his home in Avella. Mr. CHEESEBROUGH, a resident of Avella for almost 40 years was associated with the Avella Lumber & Supply Co. for several years and later with the lumber business firm of CHEESEBROUGH & PATTERSON until his retirement in 1939. Mr. CHEESEBROUGH served as superintendent of the Avella Presbyterian Sunday school for 13 years and was an elder of that church for 25 years. He was a school director of Independence township for eight years. He was a member of Richard Vaux Lodge, No. 454, F&AM of Burgettstown, and of the IOOF No. 1190 of Avella. A son of Truman A. and Arabella CAREY CHEESEBROUGH, he was born December 5, 1866, at Brookville, N. Y. He moved to the Avella community in 1905 from McDonald. Mr. CHEESEBROUGH married Nellie Bell HULINGS on April 3, 1889, and they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in the Avella Presbyterian church in 1939. Surviving are his wife; eight children: Ross CHEESEBROUGH and Mrs. Earl CROWE, both of Avella; Dell CHEESEBROUGH of Hanlin, Mrs. Frank CROWE and James L. CHESSEBROUGH, both of Monessen; Gordon CHEESEBROUGH of New Philadelphia, Ohio, Mrs. Lorrain MITCHELL of Colliers, W. Va., and Mrs. Mary JOHNS of Cochranton, Crawford county; 22 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, M. W. CHEESEBROUGH of Imperial, and two sisters: Mrs. John DESCUTNER of Sturgeon and Mrs. Mary HENSEN of Rush City, Minn. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the Avella Presbyterian church, conducted by the Rev. E. Chester CRABB. Burial was in the Independence cemetery. Miss Esther, WILSON, 77, died at 11:30 p.m. Sunday, August 22, 1943 in the home of her sister-in-law, Mrs. George C. WILSON 331 Valley street, McDonald, of a paralytic stroke. A daughter of the late Robert and Mary JARDINE WILSON, she was born July 22, 1866, in Imperial. She taught school for a number of years in Imperial and Oakdale. Miss WILSON was a member of the Valley Presbyterian church, Imperial. Besides Mrs. WILSON, a nephew Charles R. WILSON of Cleveland, survives. A brother George C. WILSON, died in 1935; a brother, William WILSON, died in 1915; a sister, Miss Idella WILSON died in 1916, and a sister, Miss Adah WILSON, died in 1942. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon in the Weir funeral home in Imperial. Burial was in the Valley cemetery, Imperial. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
