Surnames: Meeks Meek Cherry Meason Carr Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/2dB.2ACI/2585 Message Board Post: I received a copy of Jeremiah Meeks information from the Register of Wills and Clerk of the Orphans Court (Greensburg) in Westmoreland County, PA. Volume A Page 41 Year 1783 It is typed exactly as written including spelling, capitalization and punctuation. This can be used as documented information. ---------------------------------------------------- Jeremiah Meeks Deceased Memorandum - that on the twenty second day of October in the year of our Lord. One thousand Seven hundred and Eighty three. Letters of Administration of all and Singular the Goods and Chattels. Rights and credits, which were of Jeremiah Meeks, late of Westmoreland County Deceased, were granted to Ralph Cherry, the said Administrator is to make a true and perfect Inventory of all the Personal Estate of the said Deceased, and file the same in the Registers Office, at or before the twenty second day of November next and is to make a true and just accompt calculation and Reckoning of his said Administration, on or before the twenty second day of October next. Ensuing the State hereof. ----------------------------------------------------- This establishes the correct date of death for Jeremiah Meeks, as 10/22/1783. He is the father of Anne (MEEKS) Cherry, wife of Ralph Cherry, Sr. It also proves that he died in Westmoreland County, PA. This Jeremiah Meeks is the same Jeremiah Meeks that owned land on Montour Run and sold it to Alexander McCandless on 5/1/1779. (As Written below) Jeremiah Meeks of Yough. Co, Va. to Alex. McCandless, Sr. & Jr. land on Montuers Run. May 1, 1779 I have determined that my GGG-GF is William J. Meeks, Sr., he was born on March 2, 1800, in Fairfield County, Ohio and died on 9/8/1875 in Fulton County, Ohio. William J. Meeks was married to Rachel Carr in 1819, Rachel was born on 12/17/1798 in Fayette County, PA and she died on 8/15/1884 in Fulton County, Ohio. I have, by process of elimination, established that William J. Meeks' father was Joshua Meeks, who is present in the Northwest Territory. Joshua Meeks moved there in 1799 and was there until he died in 1801. Joshua Meeks, along with Ralph and Jeremiah Cherry signed a request in 1799 and in 1801 to be granted Northwest Territory land, in what became Fairfield County in 1800. I have documentation that Joshua Meeks, Ralph, and Anne (Meeks) Cherry moved to Ohio from Westmoreland County, Pa. I also have documentation that Anne's father was Jeremiah Meeks and her mother was Sarah and that they were originally from Va.
