    3. >From the McDonald Outlook of 21 Aug 1897 DEATH OF JAMES BRUCE Last Sunday at 3:30 a. m., a freight train was nearing Midway when the fireman on the train, W. Price, saw a man lying on the track. He called the attention of the engineer, F. L. Scott, to the matter. The train was stopped, and going back the train men found a young man dead, with his skull broken in. They took him to Midway, and it was found that he was James Bruce, a laborer who had been employed by the Wheeling Gas. Co. Coroner Fitzpatrick being notified came to McDonald Sunday evening, and on Monday investigated the case, with W. M. Jones, G. W. Davidson, Wm. J. Rigg, George Palm, C. H. Zeigler and Thos. Stark as jurymen. Nineteen witnesses were examined. Dr. Russell made a post-mortem examination. The evidence showed that Bruce had wandered onto the railroad track, and the jury rendered this verdict: "We find that James Bruce came to his death by accident while on the tracks of the P. C. C. & St. L. R. R." Deceased was 26 years old, and his home was at Monaca,! Beaver Co., where the remains were taken Monday for interment.
