>From the Pittsburgh Press dated December 31 1898: JOHN HAYS, who was well known in financial and business circles in this city, died at 1:30 yesterday morning at his late residence, Braddock avenue, Swissvale, in his seventy-third year. JOHN HAYS was born in the city of Philadelphia January 4 1826, but was early brought to the city of Pittsburg, where he spent the balance of his life in active business as a tobacco merchant and manufacturer until 1877, when he retired. He was for years connected as a director of the Second National bank. He is survived by a widow, MIRIAM WILKINS HAYS, daughter of EDMUND WILKINS, another old Pittsburger; five sons, JAMES G, an attorney of this city; JOSEPH A, in service of Pennsylvania railroad; JOHN R, GEORGE W R, and EDMUND WILKINS HAYS; and three daughters, CLARA B HAYS, at home with the family; MIRIAM E SCOTT, wife of W R SCOTT of Washington Pa., and JENNIE B HERRON of Salesville, Mont.
