Samuel HOPPER of this place, is a brother. Deceased leaves no children. At Imperial last Saturday afternoon, Jacob LEPS, a young Italian, was shot and killed by another Italian named Adolph d'ALBERTO. The labor troubles were mixed up in the row, but it is probable that the killing came about in a personal quarrel between the two men. D'ALBERTO was with some Moon Run miners who had gone over to induce some Montour miners to quit work. After this was done, d'ALBERTO while standing with a group of Italians and Frenchmen called LEPS passing by some names, and the fight followed, resulting in the death of LEPS. Mrs. Sarah BARNETT MCFARLAND died in Burgettstown on the 25th ult., in her 58th year. She was a daughter of George BARNETT, who formerly lived near Venice; she was married to John H. 3. WOW!!! The response is over whelming and it is great! To answer the most asked question; I am the old man with the Labrador (her name is Cheyenne, my granddaughter) and my son who has never married (Cheyenne belongs to him). I am trying to respond to the e-mails and posting to the guestbook. I will take some time. I am getting information by the ton. It will take awhile to glean it. I will e-mail responders when I update it. Thanks, to all who responded and the accolades for the web site. I must say that the software I use is Legacy (It was Free for the basic) for my database and it created the web site for me in 10 minutes. I did do some minor changes. It is the best genealogical software package I have ever used and I have used many. It took over 4 hours to upload it on a high-speed connection. (About 100 Meg.) This was very easy to do. Again, thanks to all. David L. 1. [PA-SW-OBITS] MCDONALD, John N., May 28, 1892 McDonald, PA Outlook
    2. Victoria Hospodar Valentine
    3. A very nice drawing of Mr. McDonald is included with the article. Hon. John N. MCDONALD will always be remembered by the people of the town that was named after him. He died May 23d, 1889, at the homestead where he was born, where he had always lived, and where his father had been born and lived and died. It is not our purpose here to write of him, but simply to place before our readers the strong, but kindly face that all remember so well. His life and character have often been described in the public prints and they are indelibly written in the hearts of ten thousand people. The Outlook of May __, 1889, contained the following: Thursday morning going to their accustomed places of business, people were shocked by the sad news that Hon. John N. MCDONALD had died at 6 a.m. He had been seriously ill for about two months, enduring with remarkable patience and resignation all his suffering and weakness. The grief of the people of McDonald at the death of this universally respected and kind hearted man of means, influence and ability and readiness to do good whenever an opportunity offered, will be deep and lasting. Many a family will remember his cheering and helpful visits to them when in need and distress, and will most sincerely mourn his departure. His place in society, in the church and among those who help forward the cause of humanity can not be filled, and more time is needed than is at present at the disposal of any of us to properly describe and record his many good traits of head and heart. John N. MCDONALD was born at the homestead where he died, Feb. 10th, 1820. Of his early life we can not now speak. It will be recalled as a model one by many of his early friends in this vicinity who survive him. He was married Oct. 29, 1862, to Miss Elizabeth Mary LEE, daughter of Major William LEE, of Cross Creek, this county. He served in the legislatures of 1853 and 1858 as a representative of Washington County. He was also a delegate to the Union State Convention in 1856, a representative delegate in the convention of 1868, a senatorial delegate in 1876, and again a representative delegate in the conventions of 1880 and 1884. For many years he has been a member of the Board of Trustees of Washington and Jefferson College; and of his efficiency as a school director in this district, of the work he has done for the Presbyterian Church of this place, and his interest in the cause of education and religion generally, all are aware. It would require a volume to record all that he has done in these directions.

    1. [PA-SW-OBITS] ROBB, Mark, May 21, 1892 McDonald, PA Observer
    2. Victoria Hospodar Valentine
    3. Mark ROBB Mark ROBB died early Sunday morning in his 85th year on his farm in North Fayette township, where he was born and lived all his life. His grandfather and father bought and settled upon the farm where Mr. ROBB lived and died. The deceased was the father of ex-district Attorney John S. ROBB and James McB. ROBB, of the Allegheny County Treasurer's office. Respecting his demise Pittsburg papers of Monday have the following: Mark ROBB, father of ex-District Attorney John S. ROBB and James McB. ROBB of the city treasurer's office, is dead. He and General ROWLEY, who died Saturday, were life-long friends. A few months ago Mr. ROBB was in the city, and in front of the courthouse he met General ROWLEY, whom he had known since childhood. The general was a short, fat man, not much over five feet high, and Mr. ROBB was over six feet and weighed over 270 pounds. He was finely built, and despite his years looked like a giant alongside the little general. After the usual greetings were exchanged General ROWLEY said: "Mark, you're a big man, but I'll be hinged if I don't feel young and spry enough yet to lick you," and then he laughed in his good-natured way and added: "We won't last long, but I think I'll be here when you go, even if I am smaller than you." After the two men parted that day they never met again. On Friday last General ROWLEY heard of Mr. ROBB's illness and meeting John S. ROBB, Jr., made anxious inquiry about his friend's chances for recovery. He then remarked: "I guess I am going to beat the old fellow out after all," meaning that he would live longer than him. The next morning at 5 o'clock he was found dead, and Sunday morning at 5 o'clock, or just twenty-four hours later, Mr. ROBB breathed his last. Mr. ROBB was born within four or five rods of the house in which he died. The farm on which he was living was purchased by his grandfather in 1774. The latter was the pioneer in that section. He came from east of the Alleghenies and locating in the wilderness lived there the balance of his life. The farm he bought has been in possession of the family ever since. For fifty years Mr. Mark ROBB had been an elder in the United Presbyterian church and he was very proud of it. He was first a member of the old Robinson Run Church and a ruling elder in it, and twelve years ago he joined the McDonald church and was a made a ruling elder of it. He was an upright Christian man, and his honesty and integrity were proverbial. Ever since he joined the church he never missed a communion until recently, when his health prevented him from attending. In politics he was a stalwart Republican and has voted at every election held since he attained his majority except the one last February, when he was too ill to go to the polls. About four years ago he and his wife celebrated their golden wedding. Mrs. ROBB is still living. They had four sons, only two of whom survive.
