ANDERSON, SMITH, KUEHNERT, BOCK Mrs. Martha ANDRSON aged 73, died about noon Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles MYERS, Valley St., after a lingering illness due to a general breakdown of her health. Mrs. ANDERSON lived in Washington a long period but about 18 years ago came to McDonald with her husband, who died four years later. Besides Mrs. MYERS, one other daughter, Mrs. Martha BELL of Alvy, W. Va., and one son, John ANDERSON of Washington, survive. The funeral services were held at the MYERS home Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock in charge of the Rev. W. D. IRONS. The body will be taken to Washington for interment in the Washington cemetery. Thomas SMITH died on Friday night at 9 o'clock at the County Home. Mr. SMITH had been visiting at the home of his brother Henry and went back to the County Home on Friday morning. When he left his brother's home he was not feeling well and death came that night. He was one of the oldest residents of McDonald and for a number of years made his home here. Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home of his brother Henry in charge of Rev. J. P. JORDAN assisted by Rev. J. B. CAVITT. Interment was in Robinson Run cemetery. Mrs. Anna M. KUEHNERT aged 68 yeas died in the West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh at 5:20 o'clock Sunday morning. Mrs. KUEHNERT was the widow of Robert KUEHNERT. She was born in Germany. For the past 35 years she has been a resident of Pittsburgh. She is survived by three sons: George C. KUEHNERT editor of the McDonald Record; William J. O. KUEHNERT, New York and Richard KUEHNERT of San Bernadino, Cal.; two daughters, Miss Linnie KUEHNERT of Pittsburgh and Mrs. VONDERAHE of N. Y. and six grandchildren. Funeral services were held in the H. SAMPSON Chapel, Pittsburgh, at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Interment was in Robinson Run cemetery. Elmer BOCK of Oakdale died at the West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh, Saturday morning about 4 o'clock. He was stricken with appendicitis several days ago and on Monday was taken to the hospital, where he underwent an operation. Mr. BOCK had conducted a blacksmith shop in Oakdale, but lived on a far about three miles from that place. He was aged about thirty years, and leaves his widow and one son. Mrs. BOCK is a daughter of S. Morgan HOPPER of Oakdale. Mr. BOCK was highly esteemed by a large circle of friends who were shocked to hear of his death today. The body was taken to his late home Saturday afternoon and funeral services were held Monday at 1 o'clock.

    3. DICKSON, MCCALISTER, SAPPIE, SAUTERS H. P. PORTERFIELD attended the funeral of Mr. DICKSON who was killed in an automobile accident at Titusville on Saturday. Mr. DICKSON was Secretary to the General manager of the South Penn Oil Company. James W. MCCALLISTER died at 3:30 o'clock on last Friday afternoon, Oct. 1st at his home in Oakdale. Mr. MCCALISTER was 73 years of age; he came to Oakdale about 22 years ago and engaged in the oil business. Mr. MCCALISTER was a member of the first Presbyterian church of Oakdale. He is survived by his wife and two sons, Charles of Oakdale and Robert of Woodville, and one daughter, Mrs. H. B. SIMPSON of Noblestown. Funeral services were held at his home on Sunday afternoon at two o'clock, in charge of Rev. Mr. FRANZ, assisted by Dr. MCJUNKIN of Oakdale and Rev. BILLINGS, pastor of the Methodist church, Noblestown. Interment was in the Oakdale cemetery. Louis SAPPIE, aged 84 years, a well-known French citizen, of McDonald died at his home in Valley street, Thursday afternoon at 4 o'clock after a lingering illness due to his advanced years. Mr. SAPPIE was born in France, and, in 1866, came to this country locating at Midway. Later he moved to McDonald and had since resided here. Mrs. SAPPIE and six children survive; The latter are: Noah, Emil and Albert, all of Pittsburg; The Rev. Paul SAPPIE, of Clark, Pa., and two daughters, Mrs. Sarah CEDAT, of Sheraden, and Mrs. Rose MONJOT, of McDonald. The funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the SAPPIE residence. Thomas E. SAUTERS died at 9:40 o'clock on Thursday morning at St. Joseph hospital, Elmira, N. Y. Mr. SAUTERS was born on April 16, 1865 at Banksville, Pa. and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. SAUTERS, coming to McDonald with his parents when quite young, his father having large coal interests here. His education was obtained from the common schools and Ingleside Academy of this place. His father J. D. SAUTERS was a large coal operator here until the formation of the Pittsburgh Coal Co. The father had a store in connection with his mining interest and Thomas managed this store till the Pittsburgh Coal company took over the holding of his father. Thomas E. SAUTERS was married to Miss Lama BOYCE, daughter of Sara BOYCE of Crafton in Oct. 1891 and moved with his family from McDonald to Martins Ferry Ohio, about 15 years ago where he was made head of the Pittsburgh and Cleveland Coal company with mines at that place where he has since resided. Mr. SAUTERS had been in poor health the past summer and about two weeks ago he went to a sanitarium at Glenn Springs, N. Y. On last Sunday he was taken to St. Joseph hospital, Elmira, N. Y. His death came as a shock to his many friends as it was not thought that his trouble would terminate so serious. Besides the wife and parents, one daughter and four sons survive; Mildred, John, Thomas, Richard and Robert all at home. He leaves one brother William SAUTERS of Cleveland, Ohio, and one sister, Mrs. J. D. WHITE of Pittsburgh. The body was brought to his late home on Friday evening. Funeral arrangements have not yet been made.

    3. VERSCHEUREN, STEPHENSON, ANGELEY, DICKSON Alphonse VERSCHEUREN, aged 56, died at 8:30 o'clock Sunday morning at his home in Laurel Hill. Death was the result of a complication of diseases. The funeral services were held at the late home Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock in charge of the Rev. J. B. CAVITT. Interment was in the Robinson Run cemetery. Mr. VERSCHEUREN was born in Belgium and came to this country with his wife about 30 years ago. Since coming here he was employed as a miner. He leaves wife and one son now with the Belgium army. A telegram by J. G. SCOTT of Burgettstown announcing that the dead body of his brother-in-law, Charles T. STEPHENSON, aged about 44 years had been found in an irrigation ditch on his ranch near Fort Collins, Colo. The message was from Coroner W. T. HOLLOWELL, of Fort COLLINS. No details were contained in the telegram. Mr. STEPHENSON was born near Hanlin Station in 1871. His father, James STEPHENSON, is dead but his mother, Mrs. Mary STEPHENSON, survives and resides at Hanlin Station. He went west about 20 years ago and bought the ranch near Fort Collins on which he had lived since. He never married. The body will be brought to Hanlin Station, probably arriving Sunday, and will be interred in the Eldersville cemetery. Besides the mother, four brothers and four sisters survive: Mrs. T. O. MCEWEN, of McDonald; Mrs. J. G. SCOTT of Burgettstown; Mrs. J. R. WILSON of Hanlin Station; Mrs. Charles MCCARRELL; George STEPHENSON of Hanlin; John STEPHENSON of Holiday's Cove, W. Va.; Robert STEPHENSON , of Omaha, Neb., and H. B. STEPHENSON, of Moniva, Mont. Word was received from New Kensington of the death of Reynold ANGELEY aged 12 years, former resident of this place. *Sturgeon column William MCCALL, aged 35 years while working in the Montour mine No. 1 of the Pittsburgh Coal company this morning dropped dead. He was digging coal about 8 o'clock when his death occurred. Heart failure was the cause. He lived in Meadowlands for some time but recently came to McDonald, his original home being here. He is survived by his wife and one son. The funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at the Thomas CALLAGHAN home in Sturgeon. Interment will be in the Robinson's Run cemetery. Dr. W. D. IRONS attended the funeral service of Dr. D. F. DICKSON near Coraopolis on Wednesday.

Found in the Pittsburgh Gazette dated September 22 1905: Miss SYNTHELIA STATENFIELD, one of the earliest residents of Wilkinsburg, died yesterday morning at the home of her sister, Mrs SAMUEL CHADWICK, 6114 Bond street, after a long illness. She was the daughter of LOUIS STATENFIELD, one of the pioneers of Western Pennsylvania, who settled in Wilkinsburg in the early part of the last century. She was a member of the Emory Methodist Episcopal church. Mrs WILLIAM MOREHEAD, aged 65, died on Wednesday at her residence on West Lincoln avenue, McDonald. She is survived by three sons and one daughter. PHILLIP GREDE, aged 24, bookkeeper of the Washington National Bank, died Wednesday at the home of his mother, Mrs AMELIA KAUFFIELD GREDE, 1624 Colwell street, after a short illness. PATRICK MORAN, aged 38, died Wednesday at his home, Butler and Fifty-fifth streets, of consumption. He was an active political worker in his ward and was a son of DANIEL MORAN. Mrs MARY WALLACE AULD, wife of WILLIAM AULD, died Wednesday at her home in DeHaven in her 61st year. She was a member of the United Presbyterian church at Allison park. Besides her husband, she leaves three children. JAMES CROUCH of Homestead died yesterday, aged 79. He had been living with his son, GEORGE CROUCH. He is survived by his widow and four children - GEORGE of Homestead, T J of Cleveland, JOHN of Pitcairn and Mrs JAMES AMSWORTH of East McKeesport. FREDERICK T CAMP, son of the late Rev W H CAMP, D. D., former rector of St Stephen's Episcopal church, Sewickley, died Tuesday at Bloomfield, N. J. He was a prominent architect of New York and had many friends in this city. Mr CAMP was a brother of Mrs C F MULLER of Sewickley. He leaves a widow, a son, and two daughters. JOHN C CHRISTY, one of the best-known residents of the South Side, Beaver County, died yesterday morning at the Beaver Valley General hospital, New Brighton, from pneumonia. Mr CHRISTY was in his 83d year. He was a farmer and had held the offices of justice of the peace and jury commissioner and poorhouse director.     3. LOURIMORE, CHARLIER Capt. James M. LOURIMORE, a life long resident of New Brighton, well known in the valley, a veteran of the civil strife, and a highly respected resident, died at Calendar, Ontario, Canada, of heart trouble. He had been in a serious condition for three weeks and his death was not unexpected. He went to Calendar in July. Mr. LOURIMORE would have been seventy-eight years of age had he lived until December next. Capt. LOURIMORE had an enviable war record. He enlisted in A Company, Ninth Penna. Reserves and served three years, then re-enlisted after being at home for three months in the Seventeenth Penna. Cavalry. He served until the close of the war. He was one of the organizers of Company B of New Brighton and served as both Second and First Lieutenants. He was in the N. G. P. for ten years. He was also captain of the Reynolds Rifles. Mr. LOURIMORE lived practically all his life in New Brighton. In early days before the war he was employed on the river. He was a member of the E. M. Stanton Post, No. 208, G. A. R., a charter member of Grace M. E. church and a member of Robertson Lodge, No. 450, I. O. O. F He is survived by his wife, three daughters, Mrs. George DICKEY, of New Brighton, Mrs. J. Noble JOHNSTON, of Freedom, Mrs. H. L. ANDREWS, of McDonald and one brother, Frank S. LOURIMORE, of New Brighton. Esther CHARLIER, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eli CHARLIER of North Ave. aged two years and six months died Wednesday morning at 12:30 o'clock from tuberculosis. Besides her parents she is survived by two brothers and three sisters. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the home in charge of Dr. W. D. IRONS. Interment was in Robinson Run cemetery.

    3. KELLY, KELSO, POTTLE, SLIFENSKI Mrs. Mary KELLY, wife of John KELLY, died at 1 o'clock Wednesday morning, September 13, at her home in Cecil. Death was the result of a long illness due to paralysis. She was 68 years of age. Besides the husband, one son and five daughters survive. The funeral services were held Wednesday morning at nine o'clock at St. Mary's Roman Catholic church at Cecil. Interment in the Noblestown cemetery. William Hall KELSO aged 68 years, died at his home in Englewood, Calif., August 16, 1915. He is survived by his wife and two married daughters. The deceased was reared on the home farm near Venice. Mrs. William POTTLE received word on Wednesday, September 8th, of the death of her son, Charles POTTLE, aged 23, of Detroit, Mich., who died suddenly. Mrs. POTTLE, son William and daughters Clara and Rose left Thursday morning of last week to attend the funeral, which took place last Saturday afternoon. The young man leaves a wife and two small children. While pulling ribs in the Champion mine of the Pittsburgh Coal company Tuesday Ignace SLIFENSKI, aged about 19 years was caught by a fall of slate and instantly killed. The accident happened about 1 o'clock and it was several hours before the body was recovered. The boy lived with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bartholomew SLIFENSKI, who survive. The funeral services were held Thursday morning at 9 o'clock in St. Alphonsus' Roman Catholic church. Interment in the Noblestown cemetery.

He was a member of the Maccabees. *From a resolution of respect published by the lodge Stricken with heart failure just as she was leaving the Canonsburg hospital for her home in Glenn avenue Sunday, Mrs. Mary STORMENT STEWART, wife of Isaac J. STEWART, died very suddenly. Mrs. STEWART gave birth to a son three weeks ago, and had regained sufficient strength to return home was on her way to an automobile that was in waiting when she was stricken.     3. I. H. WOLK, one of McDonald's leading merchants was struck by train No. 210 east bound about 2:45 o'clock on Tuesday afternoon in the cut east of Gregg station and instantly killed. Mr. WOLK went to Pittsburgh on the 10:57 train for the purpose of having his ears treated as he had experienced considerable trouble with an affection in his head but for some reason or other Mr. WOLK did not see his doctor and not much is known as to where he went after arriving in the city. He was seen at Crafton, Carnegie and Walkers Mills. It is supposed that he walked from Carnegie following the railroad. At the point where Mr. WOLK was struck there is a sharp curve and as he was hard of hearing the train was on him before he could get out of the way. Mr. WOLK has been in failing health for some time. Mr. A. V. CAMPBELL who was employed by Mr. WOLK was away on his vacation but on account of Mr. WOLK's condition Mrs. WOLK wired him to come home. Mr. CAMPBELL arrived home on Tuesday morning finding Mr. WOLK at the store and apparently in his usual health. Word was received here of his death between three and four o'clock and the news spread rapidly. Business was at a standstill, everywhere people were standing in groups wondering how he happened to be at this point. Mr. WOLK was one of McDonald's progressive business men coming here about 21 years ago and by hard work he had established a reputation for honest dealing and his business grew till he had the largest gent's furnishing store in this vicinity. Mr. WOLK was born in Russia, Poland and came to this country when quite young. He was 46 years of age. He is survived by is wife and one son Horace at home and five brothers, Sol and Jacob of Des Moines, Iowa; Myer and Abe of Irwin; J. N. WOLK of Pittsburgh. Funeral services were held at the Sampson Undertaking rooms on Thursday morning at ten o'clock. Interment was at West View cemetery.

Found in the Pittsburgh Gazette dated Friday, March 25 1904: Mrs MARGARET ELDER JOHNSTON, aged 78, wife of GEORGE JOHNSTON, died suddenly at her residence, No. 824 Rebecca avenue, Wilkinsburg, yesterday morning. She had been a resident of Wilkinsburg for the past 63 years and was a charter member of both First and Second Presbyterian churches of Wilkinsburg. Her husband, one brother, GEORGE ELDER of Pittsburgh, and three children, C L JOHNSTON of Edgewood, J W JOHNSTON and MARGARET JOHNSTON of Wilkinsburg survive. Miss ALMA MARIE MILLER, aged 18, daughter of PETER and MARGARET MILLER, died yesterday at the family home, No. 106 South Sixteenth street. Funeral services will be held over the remains at St Paul's Lutheran church, Sidney and South Eighteenth streets, at 3:30 o'clock pm on Sunday. Mrs ELIZABETH McCANDLESS, aged 3?, wife of SAMUEL E McCANDLESS, is dead at her late home, No. 117 Forty-fourth street, where funeral services will be held tomorrow at 2 o'clock pm.     3. SMITH, ANDREWS, KELLY, CONKLE, BRABSON, DWYER James Burton, aged nineteen months, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. SMITH of Westview died at their home on Monday, Aug. 23, at 8:30 o'clock. Funeral services were held at the home on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Interment was in the Venice cemetery. After a brief illness due to heart failure and complications, Oliver ANDREWS, aged 51 years, died at 7 o'clock Saturday evening at the home of his mother, Mrs. Sarah ANDREWS, in Station street. He is survived by his mother and four sisters, Mrs. J. A. CULLY, Oakdale; Mrs. J. A. MCCAUSLAND McDonald, and the Misses Anna and Vesta at home. The funeral services were held at the late home on Monday evening in charge of Dr. W. D. IROSN, pastor of the First United Presbyterian church. Interment was in Robinson Run cemetery on Wednesday. Henry KELLY aged 61 years died at his home near Noblestown Sunday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock August 22. Mr. KELLY had been in failing health for a number of years. Born in Ireland, Mr. KELLY came to America when a young man, for many years he has resided near Noblestown. He is survived by his wife and the following children: John KELLY of Noblestown, Mrs. P. S. STOCK, Columbus Junction, Iowa and Ella a teacher in McDonald schools; Anna, Elizabeth and Audrey at home. Funeral services were held at the late home on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment was in the Oakdale cemetery. Following an operation for appendicitis from the effects of which he did not rally, Abner CONKLE, widely known oil operator of Western Pennsylvania and one of the largest men of his time physically, died Sunday night at Parkersburg, W. Va. Mr. CONKLE, apparently in the best of health had gone to visit his brother, Jacob CONKLE, in Parkersburg. Saturday he suffered an attack of appendicitis. He was rushed to a hospital where an operation was performed and died soon after it had taken place. He was 66 years of age. Mr. CONKLE was born at Grandview, Ohio. When 13 years of age, he enlisted with the 36th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, being at the time, one of the youngest drummer boys in the army. He served throughout the four years of the war. At the close of the war Mr. CONKLE settled near Volcano, W. Va. In 1876 he was united in marriage with Miss Adel*a CLEVELAND, of Butler. The he was beginning his career as an oil operator. He came to McDonald at the beginning of the oil boom about 22 years ago. For many years he was engaged in business here. He was a charter member of the Garfield Lodge No. 604, F. &. A. M., of McDonald and was also a member of the Darius chapter of this place. He was widely known among the oil men of the district. Because of his huge physique he was known far and wide through the county. At one time he weighed about 480 pounds but had lost much of this weight during his later years. Mr. CONKLE leaves his wife and three children, Mrs. H. D. PIERCE of McDonald and George and Miss Eva CONKLE at home. The funeral services were held in the First Presbyterian church Wednesday at 4:00 o'clock in charge of Rev. J. P. JORDAN. Interment was in the Robinson Run cemetery. Robert Clair, infant so of Mr. and Mrs. C. W.     3. MCCREARY, COVERT Miss Margaret M. MCCREARY, aged 26 years, daughter of J. C. MCCRARY of Hickory, died Saturday, August 21st, in the Ohio Valley hospital, Pittsburgh. The following brothers and sisters survive: John MCCREARY of Pitcairn; Alice, Jane, Myrna, Clyde and Wilbert, all at home. The funeral services were held at the MCCREARY residence Monday afternoon. Interment in the Mt. Pleasant cemetery. Believed to have been a sufferer from melancholia, Roy COVERT, aged 29 years, a well known worker in the oil fields of this vicinity, drank carbolic acid Saturday night at the home of George HAMMERLY, where he lived, and died within a half an hour. The remains were taken Sunday to the home of the young man's parents at Renfrew. COVERT had been despondent for some time. He was physically well but was subject to fits of melancholy in which he had several times threatened to take his own life. In spite of his trouble he had continued at his work. Saturday night he came back to the HAMMERLY home and just as he was entering the door, drained the bottle of acid. In four minutes he lost consciousness. The young man was born at Renfrew and came here about eight years ago. He went to work in the oil fields here and had become one of the best known and most popular residents of the vicinity. Besides the parents he is survived by one brother, Clarence, at present in the West, and two sisters, Mrs. MCCLAY of Renfrew and Nettie at home. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning. The interment was made at Butler.

    3. SOCHER, POWELSON While walking along the tracks of the Pennsylvania railroad about a half mile east of Hanlin Station, Walter A. SOCHER, aged 20 years, of Canonsburg and Charles E. POWELSON, aged 24 years, of Carnegie, were run down and ground to death by a train about 8:30 Monday morning. The mangled remains of the two young men, who were employed as bridge painters along the Panhandle division, were brought to the morgue of Deputy Coroner HUMPHRIES where they were prepared for burial and sent to the respective homes. SOCHER was unmarried and resided with his mother in Canonsburg. POWELSON was married and leaves a wife but no children. Taking an early morning train, SOCHER and POWELSON rode to Hanlin Station where they got off and started to walk back the tracks to a bridge, located about one mile east of Hanlin Station, which they were to paint. They stepped from a track on which a west bound freight was approaching and while watching it did not hear passenger train No. 209, also westbound, approaching on the track on which they were walking ... remainder missing
