I just received information that my gg grandfather had a sister who died at 4 months of age in 1839. This information came from the Smithfield Church records. Where would she have been buried? Does this cemetery still exist, if not where were the graves moved to? Also, where can I find information on this Church? Where was its location in 1839? Joanne

It was originally built on the corner of 6th & Smithfield but the "newest" building is 1/2 block toward 7th Ave, just opposite the Gimbel's garage. You can find out about the earliest burials by visiting the Historic Pitt site. Later on, the church bought and established a cemetery on the corner of Forbes and S. Dallas which goes by the moniker of Smithfield East End Cemetery. It is now owned and operated by Homewood Cemetery but Homewood DOES have a caretaker and record keeper on-site.
