A colleague and I are talking about doing a research trip in the Fall to Pittsburgh - focus on the various library collections (Heinz, Carnegie Mellon, Univ. of Pittsburgh, etc.) and their holdings related to the Civil War. One thing we are trying to get a grasp on is lodging options for a stay of about a week. Anyone got any good suggestions for relatively inexpensive boarding in Pittsburgh? Thanks in advance. Rod
Might I also suggest you phone ahead to the library and genealogy rooms to find out about availability of certain records you may want to see when you get there too. My cousin went up there about 10 years ago, to view family records (both her parents are deceased as well as her parents siblings too) and was told that all the records were sealed for 100 years and that she should have invested in a phone call before coming all the way from Texas to Pennsylvania. She was wanting to get a photo of her mom and her dad's birth certificate, had brought her own along with her too - but they would not help her at all.
