    1. 1849 cotton-batting factory explosion
    2. Hi Gang, In March of 1849 the steam-boiler of the cotton-batting factory owned and operated by James and Andrew Fife exploded. There were many deaths. This factory was located on Ohio Street between East Common (later named Union Avenue) and Sandusky Street, Pittsburgh. I have 2 questions: 1. Does anyone know where there might be a record of those killed in this explosion? 2. My g-grandfather was b. in 1847 but by 1850, he, his brother and mother were living in the 2nd Ward of Allegheny City. There was no father listed on the census. Was the location of this factory in or close to the 2nd Ward of Allegheny City in 1850? Thanks for any suggestions. Clare in Fla.
