    3. Very interesting post ... My wife's maiden name is DARR. She tell's me that her Grandfather came from Pennsylvania. I've sent this email to her brothers - none are genealogists but someone in the Family may have input to this subject. If so, I'll post it here. And I see it states that the DAR MINE, Dar, Pa. was December 19, 1907..........239 killed. My sister sent to me an artile from the Pittsburgh Tribune of Sunday. Sept. 3, 2000 and it has a picture of a sign that says marks the spot. The sign says DARR MINE DISASTER. ON Dec. 19, 1907, an explosion killed 239 men and boys, many Hungarian immigrants, in Darr Coal mine near Van Meter. Some were from the closed NAOMI MINE, near Fayette City, which exploded on Dec. 1, killing 34. Over 3000 miners died in the U.S coal mining history. In Olive Branch Cemetery, 71 DARR miners, 49 unknown, are buried in a common grave. "Pittsburgh Historical and Muesum Commission" My Grandfather was killed in the MARIANA MINE EXPLOSION in Marianna, Pa. November 28, 1908. I have been searching to find information on him MICHAEL STEVENS he was from Russia, and since he Americanized his last name I can't get past him to find my ggranparents. I would like to find out also if there are any records for THE PITTSBURG-BUFFALFO COMPANY, that hired my grandfather. Hoping perhaps on his job application he may have written his parents correct Russian name? Let me know if you do find out if there is some where there would be records for the hired men for the mines from that era? There was a morgue on site there in Marianna, Pa., and the coroner was W.H. SIPE, I would like to discover if there are records of his recording the dead miners, names, their families etc. I found my records for the Marianna Mine Disaster at................www.chartiers.com/pages-new/articles/marianna.html Helen Durbin sent to much information on Mine Disasters that aided me finding out much of my information. Perhaps she would have some info, for you. Her addy is............ [email protected] , I hope it is still the same for this is information I recieved from her in 2000.
