Mr. Warren Carah posted a message on the Rootsweb Allegheny County message board but I offered to put his message out to the Allegheny Co. and Pittsburgh mailing lists. He is looking for any family members of Francis E. Owens of Pittsburgh, PA. Mr. Owens was born in 1921, the son of John J. and Anna Owens. Both of the parents were born in Pennsylvania, but earlier relatives were all from Ireland. Francis E. Owens was a S/Sgt. in the Army Air Corps in WW-II and was killed while crossing the Pyrenees mountains to escape occupied France. His aircraft had been shot down on 4 July 1943 in Normandy. He is buried at the Ardennes American Military Cemetery at Neupre, Belgium. Sgt. Owens lived at 4400 Calvin St., Pittsburgh at the time of the 1930 census. His siblings included John Jr., Dolores, Margaret M., Catherine M., Anna T., Marion R. and James R. Mr. Carah would like to make contact with his family to return some personal items he left with the French family that sheltered him after his aircraft was shot down in 1943. You can reach Mr. Carah at [email protected] or if you'd prefer to respond to the list I'll forward the responses to him. Carol M.
