Bob-- Madeline Cobes wrote this a few months ago in answer to a similar question: "There is a book titled Directory of Penna. Photographers 1839-1900 written by Linda Ries & Joy W. Ruby that will help you. Linda is an archivist @ the Penna. State Archives in charge of photographs. The book lists all known photographers by the town or city they practiced in AND the span of years they worked there! It can be ordered from the PA State Archives if not available locally to you."
