    1. Robert Neill of Schenley Park Log Cabin

    3. Hi All, I will give you the background first. and then I will ask my questions. There is a Robert Neill (Neal/Niel/Neil) cabin in Schenley Park. Robert came to Pittsburgh several years prior to the Rev. War. When he purchased this tract the patent says NEILL. He sold this tract and cabin in 1796 and signed his name as NEIL. The deed says NEAL and the acknowledgment is NEILL. His wife Elizabeth died between 1795 and 1801. I do not know her maiden name but it could be Newton. The 1790 Census lists 1 male and 4 females in his household and his name is NEAL. The 1800 Census lists him as NEEL with 1 male (Himself) and 2 females in the household. His 1801 will lists 5 daughters and a son. 1) Nancy Neill was the oldest and m. James McCarty (McCartney) and their dau. Elizabeth was named in the will as Robert's granddau. and Nancy's only child who was under 21 in 1801. Elizabeth m. William Stewart. 2) Mary wife of Francis Willson (Wilson) 3) Elizabeth wife of Thomas McCullough (m. 2nd Samuel (Thomas's brother) 4) SON - JOHN NEILL 5) Jean - under 18 in 1801. 6) Martha - under 18 in 1801 - m. Matthew Stewart The guardian of Jean and Martha was John Wilkins, Sr. On May 8, 1915, the Pittsburgh Bulletin printed a story by J.M. Miller in regard to this Robert Neill and his cabin. In the story Mr. Miller wrote about Neill having 2 sons but neither was named. Now my Questions: 1) Does anyone know what ever happened to Robert's son John Neill? He obviously had moved out of the household by 1790 but was still alive in 1801. Being named in Robert's will, I assume that John was in the area and did not have children at that time. Since Robert named his granddau. of his dau. Nancy, I am sure he would have named any children that his son John had, if John had any children. 2) Does anyone know the name of Robert's 2nd son? 3) Am I correct in "guessing" that Robert's wife Elizabeth's maiden name was Newton? Thanks for any suggestions. Clare P. (The other Clare) Clearwater
