There is a Congressman from Oaklahoma named John Sullivan Barb tipperboo12@msn.com ----Original Message Follows---- From: VFORSTEELERS@aol.com Reply-To: pa-pittsburgh@rootsweb.com To: paallegh@rootsweb.com, pa-pittsburgh@rootsweb.com Subject: [PA-PITTSBURGH] SULLIVANS OF PITTSBURGH Date: Thu, 13 Dec 2007 10:20:59 EST Hi List, My Sullivan ancestors have been a stumbling block and primary brick wall for 12 years! I am asking if any of the following two families are known to any of the listers. Johanna Sullivan, b. ~ 1859 is my paternal grandmother who died in 1936 in Pittsburgh. She would never tell her age and we know nothing about her family. Her eldest son, as informant on her death certificate, listed every question "unknown". >From the 1860 Census: Benjamin Sullivan, age 40, b. in Ireland Catharine Sullivan, age 40, b. in Ireland, wife Benjamin Sullivan, age 5, b. in PA Catharine Sullivan, age 4, b. in PA Joanah (sic) Johanna Sullivan, age 2, b. in PA This family lived in the 3rd ward of Pittsburgh in the 1860 census. According to the mortality schedules, it appears that Benjamin may have died in 1869. (A listing for a “Cherry” (sic)Sullivan, a Male died in the third ward according to the mortality schedules.) There are no birth certificates in Allegheny County for the children, when requested I was told they most likely burned in the Allegheny County Courthouse fire in the 1870s.Requests for “delayed birth certificates” was negative. Benjamin may have had a brother named Timothy as follows: 1880 Census Timothy Sullivan, age 54, b. Ireland Johanna Sullivan, age 40, b. Ireland, wife John W. Sullivan, age 21, b. ? Ella L. Sullivan, age 14, b. PA Mary B. Sullivan, age 12, , b. PA Anna T. Sullivan, age 8, b. PA Charles F. Sullivan, age 7, b. PA Lillie C. Sullivan, age 3, b. PA This family had a grocery store at 4417 Penn Avenue, in Lawrenceville. (13th ward ?) and a Benjamin Sullivan (same age as in the above family) worked in the store as a clerk in 1880.Timothy and Johanna are buried in St. Mary’s Lawrenceville cemetery. Johanna Sullivan, my grandmother, was married to a cousin and coworker of an Ella Sullivan’s husband, same age as Timothy’s daughter. An Ella Sullivan was godmother to my father, Johanna’s second born son. These facts have led me to believe that Timothy and Benjamin may have brothers and I am trying to determine their parents. Sorry this is so long… Any information on these two families would be gratefully appreciated. Joan PS. My Johanna also used nicknames as Josie or Josephine...do not know why she did this. **************************************See AOL's top rated recipes (http://food.aol.com/top-rated-recipes?NCID=aoltop00030000000004) ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to PA-PITTSBURGH-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
