    1. [PITTSBURGH] St. Mary's Cemetery, again

    3. OK I'm still trying to find out which St. Mary's Cemetery my WHEELER's were buried in. I have recently found quite a bit of information about the Annunciation Church on Charles Street that they attended. It seems that Annunciation Church and St. Mary's Cemetery were closely linked. The church borrowed money from the Cemetery at one point, and many of their parishoners were buried there. Doesn't anyone know which St. Mary's Cemetery would have been closely associated with the Annunciation Church? Thanks Donna

    3. Donna, It would have to be the St Mary's that was in Fineview or Nunnery Hill. That's within a mile of Annunciation Church. The St. Mary's that is in Bloomfield is another 4-6 miles away. Sometime in the past there was a discussion of this cemetery but I didn't keep any of the posts. Maybe another lister saved this info. 3. Al & All, During a recent trip to PA, I looked for the St. Mary's on Nunnery Hill. The people at the television station said that it used to be located where they now have one of their parking lots. I then went to the one on Mt. Troy Road, but my people weren't there either. The caretakers at Mt. Troy said that many years ago, the bodies/caskets buried at Nunnery Hill were sliding down the hill, so they were moved to various other cemeteries chosen by family members. I guess this could have happened to my people also. Is the St. Mary's at Bloomfield the same as the one at Lawrenceville? If so, my records indicate this wasn't founded until 1897 which would have been too late for my family. Any other ideas? It seems that someone associated with Annunciation Church should know which St. Mary's they used. I'm hoping someone on the list knows. Thanks again! Donna

    3. Hi Donna, I've been away from Pittsburgh for 23 years now but many of my ancestors are buried at St. Mary Cemetery, Lawrenceville. I think we used to go through Bloomfield just before arriving at the cemetery so this probably the same one. Boundary lines change down through the years. I just tried looking up Annunciation Church but I'm having trouble with the ISP today. My computer keeps disconnecting. Hope this helps.
