    3. Hi, I only just recently joined this list and have enjoyed the friendly banter. You all seem pretty knowledgeable and so I would like to ask a question or two about where my great-grandfather lived. He died in 1908 and according to his obituaries and another source he lived in Avalon, Bellevue and Church Avenue, Ben Avon I don't know why each source has a different place. I have a map and can see that they are all close to each other along the Ohio river. What I would like to know is if the are directories for 1908 and a few years before which might give addresses for him? Also in the obits he at one time owned a cafe and restaurant called The Club on Masters way and when he died he had offices in the Maeder Building at 435 Fifth Avenue. Has anyone heard of the Maeder Building? I doubt it is there today. - Ed

    3. Ed, You mention Master Way and Fifth Ave. In Pittsburgh or one of the suburban communities that you mentioned. There is a McMasters Way in downtown Pgh that runs from Fifth Ave to Market Square. 3. Hi Al, You sure are being kept busy replying to all these messages. Thank you for replying to mine. You are probably correct about Masters Way actually being McMasters Way. Maybe they just used to shorten it in those days or it was a typo in the paper. The reason I am interested in the Pittsburgh connection with my great- grandfather is that he left my ggrandmom for another women! Shock, horror! And so our family didn't know of his whereabouts after that. From my researches so far, I have learned that he liked to live the high society life and the only thing that was passed on down our family is that he was either living with or married to one of the Mellon banking family girls. I haven't been able to confirm that bit. I do know that he was living with another woman and her daughter from the obits. She called herself Mrs. Charles Jackson Andrews on his death certificate. He died as a resulting of over imbibing and eating during the Christmas-New Years Celebrations while staying at the hotel in Pottsville, Pa. Oddly enough his two brothers, William "Bull" H. Andrews and Wesley R. Andrews both died in hotels too. I would like to try and find out more about this 'other woman' but probably that will never be known. I thought that if I could find exactly where he was living that might then reveal her name. Sorry for the long message, my fingers ran away with me. - Ed Edward Coates Sinker Church Lea Bosbury, Herefordshire HR8 1PX UK
