You are correct. NY was an original colony. Hence my word "most" and not "all" when referring to other states. NY is fortunate to have state censuses from 1825 to 1925 every 10 years on the "5's." It sure can be handy ... if you can read them! I had a friend who was very excited to go to the page of the census his ancestors were on, and saw the headings, but the rest of the page looked blank due to the disappearing ink that the ravages of time induce. For those wanting to know more about the censuses, their contents, and their availability I would recommend Bill Dollarhide's book "The Census Book" which comes with a CD-Rom of the book and census forms to use. There is also a book just about State Censuses. Also look for Kathy Hinckley's new book coming out this year on the census. It is truly a comprehensive "must-have" for the genealogist's bookshelf. -- Elissa On Wed, 2 Jan 2002 22:30:30 EST Norafitz@aol.com writes: > Elissa > > NY's last state census was 1925 and I believe it was one of the > original 13. > > Nora > > > > Pennsylvania did not have any state censuses taken.
