Most of the other state's censuses were done when a state was a territory before it would apply to statehood. The federal government did offer to fund a state census for any state that wanted it in 1885, but PA did not partake. Tax lists can sometimes be used as a census substitute. Southwest PA does have extant tax lists for the 1798 federal "pane" tax, so named since they taxed window panes. -- Elissa ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO!
