    3. Hello, It is difficult to find out information on Sts. Peter and Paul German Catholic Church, which no longer exists. If anyone is interested, there is one book available through interlibrary loan, I believe from Notre Dame's library. I obtained it from them through my local university. It gave the history of the building of the church; there were several actual buildings. Very interesting. Perhaps there is a book available in Pittsburgh, but I couldn't find it. 3. Hi Barbara & Captain Bill, It sounds like you're talking about Duck's Hollow, although I know nothing about boarding houses there. It's very close to the Monongahela River at the Homestead High Level Bridge. You can find it at http://maps.yahoo.com by searching on Ettwein 15217 . Ettwein is the name of one of the streets. Just wondered what is available about the residents of Dooker's Hollow in the early 1900s. I know there is a Dooker's Hollow bridge in Pittsburgh....and I know it was an area where many immigrants resided in boarding houses, etc. Can it be picked out on a census of 1900 or 1910? 2. The church is St. Peter's. It was a Lutheran church and was never called St. Peter and St. Paul. It is now a reformed church. My family went to this church in the 1860's-1870's. They sold their church building in E. Liberty to an African-American church that was renting space there. They built the chapel when their congregation got too small to maintain the larger building. Some of the records for this church are at WPGS (microfilm). They are very comprehensive records. 1. Re: [PA-PITTSBURGH] 1927 Disaster
    2. Al, The 1927 floods were relatively bad floods, but not in Pittsburgh. The great Mississippi Flood flooded the Ohio, Missouri, Red, and of course, the Mississippi. Most of the lower Midwest was under water. There are several books on the subject, Robert Frost wrote a poem, and recently I watched a Hallmark Hall of Fame movie about the flood. I pretty much wiped out that part of the country and change the social structure of the areas. It is considered the worst flood of the century. There was also a great New England flood. It caused much damage in Vermont, NH, etc. The flood wiped out many bridges and they were all replace with bridges of the same appearance. The kind with the metal arched tops. This are now being replaced. Rosanne ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com

    2. My Grandad John William Fox, had cut a piece of a board from the out house that showed how high the flood was in Jollytown, Greene Co., PA. I remember seeing it on the wall up at our cabin at Bear Rocks, PA., but think my brother got it from our mother, my loss ! 2. Barb, Evidently the Flood of 1927 wasn't as bad as the St Paddy's Day Flood. I never heard of the 1927 flood. 2. Barbara/Bill
    3. 1. [PA-PITTSBURGH] Patrick Joseph Mcdonagh
    2. Hi Listers: This is my first email to this list. I am searching for information about Patrick Mcdonagh, he is on the 1910 census for Allegheny Co Pittsburgh. I am not sure if this is the same Patrick that I am looking for. The one that I am searching for came from Ougherad Galway Ireland in 1904 at the age of 33 years . He arrived at Ellis Island with his sister Mary Agnes . They moved on to his older sister Ellen Keenan 's house in Phila, Pa. The only other info that I have is that Ellen Cried when her brother died so young , I don't know when ,where or how he died , that is the whole story and there is no one alive that knows any more at this time. I am hoping that this list can help me to find him and his family , so that I can include them with the life story of his sister my Grandmother Ellen Keenan of South Philadelphia. I want to thank you all in advance . Peace be with you all . Cousin Jack Clifton in sunny Florida

    3. Hi Tomi, A quick search of the city directories on our site yields lots of hits for most of the names in the 19th Century Directories. The URL is http://www.evendon.com . One name which doesn't come up much is Sagemann. But Jagemann does. Is it possible that the German script J was mistaken for an S? I certainly have done that. Don <snip>
