My Langs are in South Side/South Hills area as far as I can tell. There are quite a few of them, so I'm not 100% sure where they all were, but that's the general central point. Hi Ken: I am John Clifton , my grandmother was Ellen Mcdonagh from Galway. Ellen had a brother named Patrick Mcdonagh who came to Phila. in 1904 from Oughterard, Galway. Patrick and his sister Mary were on the same boat, and both were in their early twenty's. They both went to the home of their sister Ellen who was married to James Keenan. I did meet Mary and Ellen but never met Patrick, I was told that he died at a very young age, I don't know if he was married or not, the only Patrick that I have found lived in Allegheny, Pittsburgh in the 1910 census. No one is alive that knows anything about this family but me and I am getting too old to think and I want to stop searching at the end of this year. If you can help me to find some news about Patrick I would be grateful. I live in Florida and will never get up north again, perhaps I shouldn't say that. Please reply. Cousin Jack Clifton in sunny Florida P.S. I sent this to you personally, but it bounced.
Thanks for the obits, Donna. The YAGATICH one provided much info on a family I only started to research last week - much appreciated. -- Ken
Hi Bryan, The ward boundaries are described in a separate section of many of the 19th and 20th Century City Directories. There's a bunch of these as well as a 1916 Street Directory up on our site at http://www.evendon.com . If anybody would like to go through the directories and note the pages where the Ward boundaries are described in each book, I'll create (on the site) a separate meta-book which has just these so they're easy to find. The same goes for streets, churches, etc. Don -----Original Message----- From: pa-pittsburgh-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:pa-pittsburgh-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Szafranski, Bryan Sent: Monday, November 05, 2007 9:48 AM To: pa-pittsburgh@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [PA-PITTSBURGH] Kruft / Lang surnames Where was/is ward 7? Bryan, The original 7th Ward, presuming you're talking about Pgh and not Allegheny City, was south of Wylie but definitely the lower Hill District. The new 7th Ward is Shadyside. Hello, I know that the Langs were German Catholic. I don't know which church they attended, however I do know their daughter, Margaret Lang GEISLER, attended Sts. Peter and Paul RC Church in E. Liberty. This church no longer exists. I hadn't made the connection that Lillian and Rosa could be the same person, but yes the birthdays seem to match up. Thanks for the 'heads up' on that! Tomi I found a John (43) and Catherine (43) in the 1870 census. Their children were Catherine (14), Joseph (10), Maggie (5), and Rose (2). I believe this is your family and that Lillian was going by the name Rose when she was a child. The ages of John and Rose both match with later census data. Do you know which church your family attended?
