Shady Ave rings a bell for me - either my mom or her grandparents from either the SCHOLL or the LANG side of the family tree lived on Shady Ave. I'll have to call mom. Hi Larry, I know Rt. 51 but don't know where Woodruff St. is. It looks like I need to borrow a car and do some driving around, huh? Hi Larry, Thank you very much for the picture. I see that it is located in North Braddock. One day I'll have to take a ride there to see it. I live in Munhall, PA so it isn't all that far from me. I might have even driven over it in the past and not knew the name. Al, Where was Seldom Seen located? I've never heard of that one either. I've lived around the PIttsburgh area for 60 years and am now finding out there is a lot I don't know about the area. The only bridge I know of that goes to Braddock is the Rankin Bridge. It goes from Rt. 837 across the Monongahela river and Braddock on the right. Remember now, I'm saying that I know of. There could be another bridge somewhere else that I never noticed. I really don't know who to ask but will find someone. I temp at the property accessor's office so I might be able to find out something there. Sharon, There was only one place more remote and more difficult to believe that it was in Pittsburgh and that was Seldom Seen. And Seldom Seen had only about a dozen homes, 1 street that was both In and Out. Maybe that's why it doesn't exist any more while Duck Hollow does exist. Gina...Thanks for suggesting this...I have browsed through some of those RR records. Some kind soul sent me a copy of the accident report that was in the Pittsburgh Press, for which I am most grateful. I have that progenealogist site in my "favorites" but usually don't get past the "states" section, so you reminded me there is much more I could be checking. My aunt, uncle and cousins loved living down there until the river rose and flooded the road going in there. If they wanted to get out they had to walk up to Brownshill Road. It was nice and quiet down there at the time they lived there. My uncle died and my aunt is in a home so they sold the house there. Hi Jane, This link is a portal to many genealogy sites. If you look almost at the bottom on the right column you will find a place to search for RR employee records. It is a very good place to start. http://www.progenealogists.com/genealogysleuthb.htm Gina Ramsey -------------- Original message -------------- From: JaneNowicki@aol.com > > My great grandfather, Alexander J. My great grandfather, Alexander J. Hamilton, worked for the Allegheny Valley RR. On 13 Feb. 1897, he was struck by a train & killed...probably near his home at Brilliant Station. Is there any place I can find an account of this accident? Jane (Hamilton) Nowicki ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com
My great grandfather, Alexander J. Hamilton, worked for the Allegheny Valley RR. He was hit & killed by a train 13 Feb. 1897...probably near Brilliant Station where he lived.
