In Pittsburg the four bridges over the Allegheny will be free to the people after the first of the coming January. The bridges will be purchased by the county and donated to the city. This is a public improvement which has long been advocated, but until now blocked by the companies which own the structures. The values of the respective properties will be determined by viewers appointed by the courts. Thus Pittsburg takes a step forward. Other public improvements are to follow; among them a fine city hall on the site of the present market house.

Please send many thanks to Your friends, They did wonderful great job, because it is about family we love, about just knowing what happend to g-g-father after he left. More for my father in law, because he would like to know what happend to his g-father here in America, how his life looked like, what he achieved here. Why he didn't come back or didn't call his wife to join him. He is looking just for explanation to more understand his decision. He still remember his g-mom face when she talked about him. He left wife and about 5 or 6 children in Poland, I do not remember exactly how it was. A beautiful Nurse, that took care of my husband when he had a stroke day before Thanksgiving.............but it was a mild ITA, Praises to the LORD. She & husband are from Poland and have only been here a few years, and I love her beautiful Polish accent. She was indebted to the hospital contract with her training and she was unable to be at her Mother's side when she died 6 months ago. Now she is full of saddnes and remorse that she was not there on her Mother's last journey. She says she can barely cope with Christmas and the holidays, and asks her mother to forgive her for what she did. Very sad ! But she said she & family will adhere to the Polish tradition to dress the Christmas tree and with Polish music of the holy night on Christmas Eve.. She said fondly she can still smell Christmas time in Poland, and she had started her baking with tears in her heart. Her husband has no information on his Grandfather: WLADYSLAW WOJTANIA Birthday: 1876 He left Poland in 1913 & came to New York. His wife was to follow the following year, but she decided that she didn't want to leave Poland. They heard from him for a few years and then all trace of him vanished? ? ? Dave and Don (sounds like a singing group), If the records are in a docket book from the Court of Common Pleas, the books are at the Allegheny County Records Center in the section overseen by Bob Seeburger but, in order to search, you need to furnish names and dates. I have an interest in a case of bigamy that was heard in a Pittsburgh court in 1909. This was a preliminary hearing that never came to trial. Can anyone tell me if this would be classed as a civil or criminal matter? Are transcripts of such proceedings available to members of the public? If so, where can these be obtained from? The accused was held in Allegheny County Jail. Are Allegheny Jail records available for public viewing? If so, can anyone tell me how I can obtain copies? Thank you. David Railton Cheshire England
Dear David, This sounds like a criminal case. It likely was documented in a Docket book from the "Court of Common Pleas." Many of these books were destroyed by water but many still exist. They may be held either by the Prothonotary's office or by the Criminal Court offices. There also existed and perhaps still do daily registers for the Allegheny County Jail from that period. These were held in the Carnegie Library. They would show the name and the length of time in jail. I can make a couple of phone calls for you if you like. It would be helpful to know the particulars. Do you have exact dates? What are the names? What exactly are you looking for? And what is the source of your information? She would never tell her age and we know nothing about her family. There are no birth certificates in Allegheny County for the children, when requested I was told they most likely burned in the Allegheny County Courthouse fire in the 1870s.Requests for “delayed birth certificates” was negative. Johanna Sullivan, my grandmother, was married to a cousin and coworker of an Ella Sullivan’s husband, same age as Timothy’s daughter. There were two Sullivans (is that spelled right) that went to my school. One is Colleen Sullivan and John Sullivan. The school was St. George's in Allentown (Pittsburgh). I just saw (Sully) (she) a few months ago. She was in a nursing, rehab. home and was in the room with my brother-in-law's sister. She goes by a different first name but don't know why. John and Colleen were not related. They are in their late sixties or early seventies. I recently had a list of some of the people buried in St. Mary's cemetery but I can't find it. I hope this info in some way helps. Dear Barbara and Bill, If you live in Pittsburgh, you could bring it by and I could shoot it right away. It doesn't take long. If not, you could send it priority mail with the Post Office's flat rate box. That costs about $9 in each direction and we have never had a book lost. Please post to me at Lookups@EveNDon.com to discuss the details and thanks for considering doing it. Dear Victoria and List, Thanks for posting about these Yearbooks, Victoria. We have been placing Yearbooks up on our website and quickly as we can. We have found it very disturbing that the prices are so high for vintage yearbooks. Our site can be found at: http://Yearbooks.EveNDon.com If anyone in Pittsburgh or elsewhere has a yearbook that they are interested in placing online on our site, please get in touch with us to arrange it. We are particularly interested in books from our area, but we have placed a number of books up from other areas as well. Don <snip> I was browsing through EBay and found 2 year books for sale that might interest someone on the list. One is for Turtle Creek HS 1959 and the other is for David Oliver HS Pittsburgh 1948. I have no connection to either book, just passing on the info. http://collectibles.search.ebay.com/Pennsylvania_High-Schools_W0QQcatrefZC6Q QdfspZ32QQfclZ3QQfgtpZQQfposZ15017QQfromZR2QQfsooZ2QQfsopZ32QQftrtZ1QQftrvZ1 QQlopgZQQsabfmtsZ1QQsacatZ39727QQsadisZ200QQsaobfmtsZinsifQQsaprchiZQQsaprcl oZQQsargnZQ2d1QQsaslcZ2QQsbrftogZ1QQsofocusZbs ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to PA-PITTSBURGH-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
