    2. IRAY
    3. I agree - sometimes even the simplest names get misspelled. I spent a long time looking for my WRIGHT ancestors on the census of 1870. Then bam - when I was looking for a different name in the same town I stumbled across my family incorrectly spelled RIGHT. It was there all along! My other ancestors with a simple name like Crossland were often recorded as "Crofsland" - a fact that caused me no end of confusion when I was new to researching. 2. I know exactly what you mean. One of instances that stands out is the writing of a double "s" , i.e., ss . Some of the older handwriting looks like "fs." The first "s" is much bigger and looks like a lower case "f" followed by an s. It took me a while but I finally figured out the name I was looking at was "Jesse", not Jefee or Jefse! ************************************** Donna Binkley Lograsso - St. Louis, MO Searching: BINKLEY - ALLEGHENY Co., Penn Hills/Plum Boro., PA DAVIDSON, FRICK - WESTMORELAND and ALLEGHENY Co., PA BINKLEY, MORGAN - Ohio SABOCK, YENETS, PERCICH - CAMBRIA Co., PA

    3. Kathy, Allegheny City (Pittsburgh's Northside) 1900 census was separate from Pittsburgh. Allegheny City was annexed by Pittsburgh in 1907, so the 1920 census should show up included in the Pittsburgh census. The Northside ward numbers at that time were 21 through 27, I think. Be creative when looking for the Reeher name. The handwriting is ofter very bad, especially "e", it could be read as an "i", "ic", or just about anything. If you think Frank Reeher lived in Allegheny City in 1900 and have any additional information about him, send it to me and I'll take another look. The closest I came so fat was Frank Reichel (which is possilbe) at 877 South Canal St. Gma Barb babarnes@nauticom.net

    1. RE: [PITTSBURGH] Something to think about
    2. Well, I don't condone Clinton's inaction, but they (news media lately) has been reporting secret covert actions some places & success, but American's would be spotted openely over there, & perhaps killed or are suspicious as soon as they hit those countries, where if their own people, Aphgan's go back over there prepared to fight, might have a easier time of getting in there to fight, but you don't see them volunteering to go! Fear will be overcome somehow & we'll get him, Ben Ladin or some of his cohorts. WE have a different ways here in the USA though! As the saying is "Don't go unprepared". & "Be prepared for the long haul". Nerves of steel are needed in this situation for sure! Stradigies take time to prepare & impliment, good ones anyways! Is there anyplace to check such things anywhere? City/County building? Carnegie Library in Oakland? Can anyone tell me because I do know of one of my relations in 1922, living in Pittsburgh, & haver tried to find him, REEHER, Frank, & so far WPA Society couldn't find him? Where do I go next? 3. Until the incident of Sept. 11, 2001 the nation would not tolerate such action as a war. After Sept. 11th they will support such actions that are now going on. Apparently it took a devastating act for America to support extensive military engagement. Plus the fact that anytime Clinton took military action everyone said he was only doing so to distract from his political problems. 2. Did anyone happen to notice that 4 people involved in the embassy bombings were sentenced to life in prison the other day? People from the WTC bombing of 1993 are in jail, including a blind Muslim cleric that the Taliban wanted to trade for some Americans they are holding. The past is history, we can't change it, let's not become divided over it. If the Dutch hadn't sold slaves to the colonist, we wouldn't have racial issues in the US today. Both of my children saw the buildings fall. They are only a few miles from ground zero. My husband worked in the building until a couple of months ago. Maybe if we had caught more terrorists, maybe they would have blown up more buildings sooner in retaliation. Who knows? Rosanne

    1. [PITTSBURGH] city directories
    2. While looking through some of the microfilmed city directories at Carnegie Library, I happened to see that from 1901 through 1909, the years that I researched, there is a separate section after the Pittsburgh-Allegheny entries for Edgewood, Etna, Millvale, Sharpsburg, Swissvale, and Wilkinsburg. While using the 1885 directory, I found a separate section for Knoxville Borough after the Pittsburgh entries. I don't know if any other years have supplements, but if you have relatives who lived in these districts, it may be worth looking. Judi
