Possibly, man, ya never know. I will see what else I can find out... Also, on that heinz history center photo site that was listed here a few days ago, there's a pic of one class at Minersville school, with a little cardboard ID thing in front of them, I think it said 1898? Not sure. It's in the Miscellaneous group. Will try to find a bit more info on these schools, but not sure what I'll be able to find. Yep Marilyn, that is the way I do it also....I think it is about the only way you can find a census page number at the images of census on Ancestry.com that I know of. ----- Original Message ----- From: <SusanE1104@aol.com> To: <PA-PITTSBURGH-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, November 08, 2001 5:01 AM Subject: Re: [PITTSBURGH] Ancestry Census Records - Am I Doing Something Wrong? > Marilyn, > No, I don't think there's any magic formula. OK, a not to all, I work at the Board of Education, and when I saw the posts regarding Minersville and Riverside Schools, I did a little checking. Minersville School was located at Center Ave. and Morgan St. and was closed in September, 1942. I do not have a date as to when it opened. The information I found showed that it was combined with Rose Elementary School. Rose Elementary School was located on Rose and Charles Sts. and was closed in June of 1942. Again, I do not have a date as to when it opened. It was combined with Minersville School. I do not know if all the students were transferred to Minersville School, or to a different/new school. Will look for that information, but it may not be available. Riverside High School was located at 1740 W. Carson St., as Al has said. It openend in 1910, but I do not have any information as to when it closed or where the students went. Bryan.
Dear Listers, Hi Listers, That's what it is here in Central FL. Many schools, but some are duly needed to be refurbished, is in the beginning stages of getting new schools for our immediate local areas, but slowly. The problem is the older population doesn't want to spend money there! It's unfortunate that most people here feel that "it's not my problem"! I volunteer at one that, in my opinion needs to go by the wrecking ball, either rebuilt, or used for other things, the kids absorbed by the many other schools in the area. You do find some that don't' feel that way, but everyone is entitled to their opinion, that's what this country is all about, I guess. Sorry about venting, but just felt strongly, because we just voted about the sales tax here in Lake county! Marilyn, No, I don't think there's any magic formula. I just start with image one and see what that number is, and then try to make a good guess as to how far along the number would be in the images. It sometimes takes quite a few tries before I find the page I'm looking for. Susan
Mac, Across the Ft Pitt Bridge, take the exit for W. Carson St. The modern and long building is the Buncher Building, formerly a Heinz warehouse. Next visible landmark is the Pacific Pride gas station, just pumps. Right after Pacific Pride and about 100 feet before the ramp leading to the West End and Bridge is a tiny cut in the curb. That's Musk Way and you can't miss the wrecks parked there. The Wrecking Yard is probably 600 ft or more in length. If you went up the ramp or to the right to continue on W. Carson, you've travelled too far. Al At 07:59 PM 11/7/2001, you wrote: >Al Lenkner, > Where on W Carson is the wrecking yard ?? Thanks to everyone who answered my query. I thought that you could be closer than a third cousin and marry and that seems to be the consensus. The reason I asked is because I am doing some research for someone and his parents were first cousins. As it turns out, so were his grandparents and finally his brother married a first cousin. Curious and curious. And we think we've got problem sorting out our families. Here everyone has the same last name. Rosanne

Could it be that your relative lived at Rural and Euclid and worked at Minersville School? I can't think of any mines in that vicinity. That particular area is pretty flat. The closest mines would have been in Garfield, I think. Rosanne
To add a penny or two, there is also the Minersville Cemetery which is located behind Milliones Middle School on Sugar Top. Lori, You have to look at the page number on the actual census record.....not the image number. It is confusing. The number you are looking for is usually a printed number on the census page. I think different years are different and some pages don't have a number that you can see at all. Sometimes it takes a long time to find the page. I can't wait until they get them all indexed! susan

I broke down and took a quarterly subscription. Using information from previous lookups I know what page an ancestor should be on. But when I look on that page on Ancestry they are not there. I tried running a plain ancestry search on one of these people and nothing comes up. Is it me? Thanks for any help. Lori

Thanks for giving me the general area of Pittsburgh. I found a relative, Charles A. Riddle, on a city directory for 1890 as Principal of this school at the Rural and Euclid Address. Marcia
