Hamburgers will be just fine, make mine rare, fresh bun, but please don't fuss too much. As for the pool, no problem, just as long as the hot tub is working. Marilyn P. Oh, no, Lakewood Resort? Oh, well, times change and I guess we change with them, come to think of it. A nice townhome sounds much more comfortable than those rustic cabins... ha ha! We traded one of our timeshare weeks at Vail, CO for a week at Lakewood Resort. We did this in 1999, and had a lovely three story townhome right on the lake. Of course on that trip, I spent my time in Hagerstown, MD attempting to chase down an errant g,grandfather by the name of Delmar Whetzel who left his family in Fayette Co. and also visited the Garrett Co. Historical Society which has a wonderful museum attached. The people at the historical society were wonderful and helped me get some Wetzel obits; but, nary a trace of the elusive Delmar. Oh, yes, and lets don't forget the fun I had making my husband travel the back roads to Grafton, WV. His driving gave a new meaning to corkscrew curves. <Smile> Oglesbay brings back memories as I attended a majorette camp at the park when I was in high school. Marilyn; Lake Co. Thanks for that info Rosanne (about the Salvation Army). Does anyone know if AmeriCares is a good one? I made my contribution to that fund thru the CFC (Combined Federal Campaign) at work. It stated in it's information on the internet (also provided thru CFC) that all contributions (after the 15% administrative fee) went directly to the families of the Firefighters and Police. I hope I made a good choice? Like others on this list my family has had problems with the Red Cross. St. Vincent de Paul isn't nationally well known but it operates in most local areas and is strong in New York. The great thing about them is that when you go to them for help they have access to disaster funds as well as local funds. They stayed to take care of the people with Hurricane Andrew for five years after the big blow. You still have to go to them but they are as near as your local Catholic Church and you don't have to be Catholic to apply for aid. The National Headquarters is in St. Louis. Colleen

My personal experience with Red Cross In 1962 my husband was hospitalized, dying of cancer. His doctor, hoping it might help, ordered blood transfusions. You've all heard Red Cross pleading for blood donations, right ! Well, this is how they operated in this case. In 1962 they charged $35 for each transfusion for my husband, UNLESS someone made a blood contribution in his name. In 1962 $35 dollars was a lot of money. My take-home salary at that time, as a bookkeeper at a junior high school was about $75 per week. I had four children 12 and under, as well as a mortgaged home. If it hadn't been for the wonderful people, teachers and clerical at that school who donated blood and money I don't know what I would have done. Now tell me, is this SELLING what was donated in good faith? If not, I'd like to know how they justify it. Carol S.
Here is a link to Give.Org: Give But Wisely. I do not know how accurate this is but if you want you can check it out http://www.give.org/reports/index.asp It is about time that these charities become accountable for monies donated to them.
