OK, let me make this clear. To everyone. If this is in response to my and Al's conversation about the age of ladies having children these days, it was NOT intended as a personal attack, nor a condemnation of anyone on this list. Ask anyone on this list who knows me, I am not one to judge. If you have a child young, and you're able to care for that child, more power to you, I wish you the best of luck. I just made the observation that south side was much different that troy hill, and I am going to leave it at that. If anyone was offended, you took my comments the wrong way, and there's nothing I can do about that. Bryan. -----Original Message----- From: Dave Kraska [mailto:dhzkrask@adelphia.net] Sent: Thursday, November 15, 2001 3:05 PM To: PA-PITTSBURGH-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [PITTSBURGH] Re: PA-PITTSBURGH-D Digest V01 #370 Bryan, I got it. Schwart's, ya mean? Also, try Mission Market, on Mission St. We get their smoked kielbassa every year.....and that stuff is good.... See, see? that's what you get for doubting us pollacks : ) B. -----Original Message----- From: Cotter, Anna [mailto:Anna.Cotter@ca.com] Sent: Thursday, November 15, 2001 11:13 AM To: PA-PITTSBURGH-L@rootsweb.com Subject: RE: [PITTSBURGH] Kielbasa Recipe Bryan, Bryan, Bryan, I'm 100% Italian. But I can tell you going to the in-laws that there is a huge difference between fresh "real" kielbasa and the smoked whatever you see in most stores. When I first started dating my husband, he asked me if I would join him at his families house for Easter. He informed me that they were going to have kielbasa and chicken soup. Some out of town family members were going to be there and he wanted me to meet them. I informed him that I did not like Kielbasa but he insisted that I go. Anyway, I got my mom to change the time of our dinner so be more "lunch". I made sure that I ate before leaving for the future in-laws. When I got there, the kielbasa was fantastic. Nothing like I ever tasted before. It was nothing like the kielbasa in the stores. There are only two places that I know that has this "fresh" kielbasa in this area that almost compares. That is Barker's meat, and Swartz's (spelling??) in the South Side. Oops! It was this week's edition of the Progress and the date didn't even register. With the hustle and bustle of the holidays upon us I'm lucky I know what day of the week it is! Another Senior Moment! Sorry, Gang.......... Bryan, Bryan, Bryan, I'm 100% Italian. Anna
I'm not the only member of Mac's fan club. Although someone said that we would all fit in an elevator. . . Cooking is in my gene's. If it comes from a box, I'm sure to mess it up. But if it's fresh . . . I usually don't have leftovers. I guess it comes from my Italian grandmothers influence. They would spend days cooking to get ready for the big Sunday meal. My two grandmothers lived across the street from one another and both houses were normally filled on Sunday afternoons with numerous relatives. In my family, three brothers from one family married three girls who were first cousins from another unrelated family. But everyone knew everyone else. So if you would like anything Italian (Abruzzi style) let me know and I'll make it for you. If I can't cook it, I'll have my Uncle Franco (not related to Guido) cook it. My sausage recipe is coming but since I don't usually use measurements I'm going have to make sure my estimates are correct so I'll be making sausage in the near future. P.S. If you plan on making sausage, start making your homemade wine now. -----Original Message----- From: Al Lenkner [mailto:alenkner@stargate.net] Sent: Thursday, November 15, 2001 10:36 AM To: PA-PITTSBURGH-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [PITTSBURGH] Kielbasa Recipe I guess that Anna is lucky!
