    2. The NARA page tells you how to code up the soundex. You will need to get the soundex microfilm for that soundex code for the state in which your people lived. Once you have the soundex microfilm, you will go down through the photos of the soundex cards until you find your people. On their card is the ED and page number which will direct you to the actual census entry. You then roll up the soundex microfilm and go to the State, County, and ED in the actual census which was on the soundex card. Your family should be there with all their neighbors, etc. Look around the neighborhood, as other family members might be near by. To read some of this for yourself, you may want to see http://www.nara.gov/genealogy/genindex.html#guides which tells you how to use the NARA guides to find the microfilms numbers that you will need. Whether your library has the films or you have to order them in, or go to the LDS family history center to order them, you will still need to know exactly which film it is you need. -- Elissa On Wed, 26 Dec 2001 08:50:08 -0800 (PST) Phyllis Frameli <phyl8@yahoo.com> writes: > Elissa, > > I am a little confused, where do I enter the surname > soundex code to find the ED? 1. Re: [PITTSBURGH] Linhart, PA
    2. Phyllis, The 1910 and 1920 index is known as the SOUNDEX. The surname codes up to a letter and 3 numbers and they use that to help you find your ancestor in the actual census pages. So once your surname is coded (see http://www.nara.gov/genealogy/coding.html ) then you would look in the appropriate year soundex microfilm for your head of household. (Only head of households were indexed, along with anyone whose surname was different than the head of household.) The soundex microfilm will then give you the ED and page number that you would use in the census to see the entire household's information. Hope that helps. Where are your Italians from? -- Elissa On Wed, 26 Dec 2001 07:15:01 -0800 (PST) Phyllis Frameli <phyl8@yahoo.com> writes: > Can someone help please? 3. Snowbird is just someone that commutes from Up NOrth to the south every winter. I don't know what a bluehead is unless it's just someone that is older. I think I remember it as an older folk, years ago! I know because I live in Central FL, experience the influx every year whether I want to or not! Traffic is so bad here, now! If you haven't come by now, stay up there this year, okay!? Tee-hee! C. 2. Sue M
    3. Bill Cowher's Night Before Christmas 'Twas the night before Christmas in a Burgh that I know The stadium was empty and the lights did not glow The uniforms hung in the lockers with pride with the helmets, with emblems on only one side The players and coaches had been gone for a while I sent them home early with a holiday smile So I cleared off my desk and was ready to leave to spend time at home on this Christmas eve When out by the lockers I heard a loud clatter I ran from the office to see what was the matter I ran down the hall just as fast as can be and stopped at the door I was trying to see I heard someone walking some concern this did cause Then I gasped when I saw it was Santa Claus He was dressed not in red but in gold trimmed with black and I watched as he pulled all the gifts from his sack Some fumbles, some pics, and some sacks for the "D" And a ball for Kris Brown that flies straight as can be The receivers got touchdowns A long bomb for Slash and a defensive back for the Bus to smash Every player and coach got a gift of some kind but what would he leave me? Lots of thoughts crossed my mind I watched as he carried his bag down the hall but he started to leave he left me nothing at all So with fire in my eyes and spit on my lip I yelled 'cross the room "Hey man, what's your trip?" "I watched as you gave all those gifts to my crew but you're giving me nothing what wrong did I do?" He turned and he smiled and he said just one thing "When you get to New Orleans you'll get your Super Bowl ring" Sue McAlister HOME PAGE: http://pages.zdnet.com/tomssue/ Administrator for: PA-PITTSBURGH and PA-WESTMORELAND-HISTORIC Administrator for: BALLES, ECKER, KELLAWAY, KELLOWAY, MCCALLISTER, MCALLISTER, SKELLY, PAINTER, PAYNTER Administrator for: Adoption, Mystery, Horror, Stay-At-Home-Moms, M-W- C, Nost-TV, Palm-Gen and Westie --- Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). 3. Dee, There are no dumb questions, just dumb responders. In my vocabulary 'snowbirds' are generally couples or single males, 'blueheads' are generally widows or single women who tend to 'whiten' their hair. Remember how Grandma put 'bluing' in the white wash ??? A certain 'YOUNG CHICKADEE' took exception to my use of the phrase. Mac
