    3. Latrobe Drive in is still operating, on Sundays they have a flea market. I spent a lot of nites at the Greater Pgh Drive ins, with all those screens you could count on something to be of interest. Are they the ones that had the playgrounds in front or beside the screens? I remember this from one on the drive-ins, for kids to play on until the movie started. Sue* ----- Original Message ----- > That is Greater Valley Shopping Center. It is still there. 2. Mac, Kidding aside. I live near a city that has 2 airports inside the city limits, though neither is downtown. It is a terrible idea. The noise is awful and the traffic. Then sometimes on crashes. I am speaking of NYC. I think high speed trains would be so much better. Rosanne

    1. [PITTSBURGH] school houses
    2. Sue M
    3. Debi, It worked for us and it was like that until 1976 (I think), then the district created two middle schools. What was kind of strange is that when I entered eleventh and twelfth grades, some of the kids that were seniors when I was in seventh grade became my teachers. They went to college, I plugged my way through high school, then they got jobs with the same school district. I knew them as students and buddies, then had to call them Mr. or Miss. when I became a senior. Ugh...that was awful to have to do. 3. Yes, Mac if they don't they really should! It's a beautiful song! Yes, I do! I'm under fifty. Aren't senior citizens at least 60?! And then some of them don't act their age! My mother-in-law is just getting in her mid-70's beginning to exhibit symptoms of "old age" now! Ya know "staying at home most of the week", not being seen by your neighbors much, except on "trash day"! But perhaps that's why you seniors move to FL, so your second childhood comes back! Or is it because you don't want to babysit the grandkids! We all have to make some effort don't we no matter how old we are! C. 2. Rosanne, I believe that you are thinking of Greater Valley Shopping Center which was right beside the drive in (Greater Valley Drive in), but you are in the vicinity. Heading west on route 30, just as you get to the shopping center there is a read light. Make a left there, go down the hill, make another left, and there you are, at Eastland Plaza (if my memory is accurate). BTW, the drive in is gone too :( Sue* Roebuck513@aol.com wrote: >Where was Eastgate Plaza? What was the shopping center on Rt. 30 by the >Drive In? > >Rosanne

    2. Mac, My grade school had 16 rooms and the high school upstairs had 8 rooms. On the first floor there were 2 1st grades, 2 2nd, 2 3rd and 2 4th. 5 - 8 was on the second floor. We didn't have the advantage of mixed grades, there were 72 kids in my 1st grade class. Since I could already read, my job was to tell Joey Brown how to read. He and I shared a desk, one of those with the fold up seats and the ink well. He didn't pass first grade, so I guess I flubbed my first teaching job. We were that poor nuns first class, I wonder if she left the order. Oh, by the way, St. Lawrence O'Toole on Penn Ave. in Garfield. Rosanne

    2. I think the no crime was the big advantage, but growing up in the 50s in the city, we had little crime. A fight in the playground or a broken window was big time bad. Now a rape at school is old news. I wished we could pass through the phone booth bad to those days. I would be willing to milk a cow if it could get us there. I would even shovel the do do. Rosanne

    1. [PITTSBURGH] Old Age - Since we are on the subject
    2. JUST MATURE At the drugstore, the clerk was a gent. >From my purchase this chap took off ten percent. I asked for the cause of a lesser amount; And he answered, "Because of the Seniors Discount." I went to McDonald's for a burger and fries; And there, once again, got quite a surprise. The clerk poured some coffee which he handed to me. He said, "For you, Seniors, the coffee is free." Understand---I'm not old---I'm merely mature; But some things are changing, temporarily, I'm sure. The newspaper print gets smaller each day, And people speak softer---can't hear what they say. My teeth are my own (I have the receipt), and my glasses identify people I meet. Oh, I've slowed down a bit...not a lot, I am sure. You see, I'm not old...I'm only mature. The gold in my hair has been bleached by the sun. You should see all the damage that chlorine has done. Washing my hair has turned it all white, But don't call it gray...saying "blond" is just right. My car is all paid for...not a nickel is owed. Yet a kid yells, "Old duffer...get off of the road!" My car has no scratches...not even a dent. Still I get all that guff from a punk who's "Hell bent." My friends all get older...much faster than me. They seem much more wrinkled, from what I can see. I've got "character lines," not wrinkles...for sure, But don't call me old...just call me mature. The steps in the houses they're building today Are so high that they take...your breath all away; And the streets are much steeper than ten years ago. That should explain why my walking is slow. But I'm keeping up on what's hip and what's new, And I think I can still dance a mean boogaloo. I'm still in the running...in this I'm secure, I'm not really old ... I'm only mature. Rosanne
