    3. Dear S O B, The 1850 City Directory shows my gggf Claudius McCutcheon at 84 Pike Street and ggf James a clerk at Walnut & Pike. The 1850 census shows them in the 5th Ward. 3. You're so right about the 5th ward (Strip District). I'll bet your GGGrandfather knew my GGGGrandfather, James Owens, at 104 Pike Street! 3. Doris, Prepare for a battle between OLD Man Lenkner and 'That Pup' McCutcheon !!!! According to the 1867 City Directory, Mulberry Alley, which still exists, ran from, what is now 11th Street to 33rd Street through what is now referred to as the "strip", through the 5th and 9th wards. Sometime after 1867 and before 1877 the wards were changed. the 'strip' became the 12th ward and the 5th ward was moved to the lower hill district (I think !!!) 3. Anyone have WOODs from Pennsylvania? I am looking for any I have in my possession a copy of the book "History and Genealogy of the descendants of Abinah Wood and Susannah Humphreys" published in 1909. Most of their descendants lived in the Pittsburgh area, and a number of these are buried in Hargey's Graveyard, Highwood Cemetery, and Uniondale Cemetery, all of Pittsburgh. 2. It is also imperative for researchers to get the land records of the land that was probated in Allegheney County. You would be amazed how much family information are in those deeds if the property went to a relative...information such as "Mrs. Shade NOW Stowater," or "Mrs. Shade wife of deceased son" etc. Wills are just the beginning of research, not the end.
