This evening I finally got to update the website for the 74th PA Vol's website. http://www.olypen.com/tinkers/74th%20Pennsylvania/Webpage/ Updates include: * Poetry about Schimmelfennig in the Amusing and Odd * Finally got to do a report on the Battle of Freeman's Ford with a lot of help from Bret then and today (THANK YOU) * Update on artwork from Gary Casteel that is now available (monument replica (pecan resin or stone) and also the new art print of the 74th Monument) * Regular changes made to addresses and such * We are now at 50 researchers associated with the site in some fashion, although a few e-mails are now problematic and I have had no updates from this folks... * Rockets of Company G now has two parts - the orginal explanation and then Bret and I got contacted by the Rocketman and what an amazing collection he has....that is Part 2 Remember there is a search engine on the site that can be used to find names and such. Things on the "to do" list -- 74th gear and stuff -- this would be a store link that would be created with www.cafepress.com -- I just need to figure out the design requirements. Proceeds would go first to the Gen. Bohlen marker needed near Freeman's Ford. Then we have our ancestor's battle flag that needs conserving, and then... ;-) So, hope all are doing well. Take care and best wishes. Rod Fleck 74th PA Vol. Inf. Sent from Forks, Washington
Can anyone tell the name of the Hospital located in Sheraden, and where abouts is this city just found out one of my cousin's is in the Hospital but no mention of name Donna Searching for surnames: PARKS, BLAZEVIC, PYLE/PILE, BAIR/BARE, MISETIC DOUBT, Gates, to name a few mostly in CENTRE CO. ARMSTRONG CO. BUTLER, CLARION CO. and PITTSBURGH, PA
Carol, Thank you for answering but the names don't ring a bell. I will however print it out and just in case, you never know. I have found names of people in my family on all sides that I never knew about so nothing surprises me. We are going to have a Black/Boscia Family reunion in Sept. at my cousins home in Bethel Park, Pa. The Boscia is his mothers side and his father Richard Black was my Uncle. There aren't very many older ones left on the Black side so I think this might be a great and timely thing to do. I haven't seen most since I was a little girl (I'm 73 now) so should be interesting. Thank you again. Alice

Ed McLaughlin TheWGALChannel.com Pickup Truck Crashes Into Gettysburg Monument (4th Ohio Volunteers along Steinwehr Ave.) POSTED: 4:37 PM EST March 4, 2004 A pickup truck lost control Wednesday afternoon and crashed into a Civil War monument and two granite fence posts on the Gettysburg battlefield at East Cemetery Hill, according to the Gettysburg National Military Park. Katie Lawhon, with the military park said the driver was traveling northbound on Baltimore Pike and lost control of the vehicle in front of the Evergreen Cemetery. The truck swerved off the east edge of the roadway, continued approximately 150 feet in a northerly direction and struck the Fourth Ohio Volunteer Infantry right flank marker and two granite fence posts within Gettysburg National Military Park. The driver had no passengers and was not injured. Preliminary National Park Service cost estimates for the damage are between $5,000 and $10,000, including a complete recasting of the zinc monument, which cannot be repaired. The Gettysburg Borough Police Department is investigating and charges are pending. This is the third time since October 2003 that a vehicle has struck and damaged a monument or cannon carriage within Gettysburg National Military Park. Dear Alice, I didn't know if you were just looking for the surname BLACK in Allegheny County. I have some BLACK individuals who married into my HARTZEL/BRENNER line in New Castle, PA. Specifically, my gg/Aunt Hattie (Harriet) (maiden name HARTZEL) married Esli Black (1890 - 1985) who owned a construction company and farmed 12 acres. Their children were Robert, Dorothy, Marian and George. Most of them probably still live in the New Castle, PA area. Carol M. I just found the WWI Draft Registration for my Great-Grandfather at ancestry.com. Much of the information was as I expected - but I'd like some help determining his place of employment. He is noted as being a bartender, employed by F L Gerst at 1832 Carson St, Pgh - as best as I can make it out. Wondering if anyone knows the name of the bar that was at that location in 1918. Thanks for any and all help. Cheryl M. Gray Orlando, FL
Anybody know anything about Dabbs Photography studio and what years it was in business at this address, 46 & 48 Sixth Street, Pittsburgh, PA??? I have an antique photo I picked up today at an antique store that was taken at that location, and I'd like to have approximate dates for it. Thanks in advance! Rich, Thanks for your encouragement. Its so strange that out of all those names, someone doesn't recognize one name. There are two that I really want to find - one is my Great Grandmother Anna Eliza DOULING/PHILLIPS who must have died between 1910 and 1920. She is the one that lived with the HEBERLE family (her step-daughter Maud Phillips/Heberle). I would really like to find out where she is buried and send for death cert. That seems to be the only way in which I can discover who her parents were. She changed her place of birth three different times on the census and I have searched for DOULING in Pa, V and WV. Nothing. Then I would like to locate a descendent of J.J.EVANS and Mary L. BLACK/EVANS in the hopes one will remember a story maybe about my Great Great Grandparents John and Sarah BLACK who disappeared between 1860 and 1870. My Great Grandfather Lemuel/Lemon BLACK and some of his siblings went to live with J.J. and Mary. Until I can find something I won't be able to continue with the BLACK line of the family. Most of the other names are related to either the Blacks or Bibeys or Phillips or Llewellyns. A few people have answered my query but just to add their research names. I really do wish them all the luck. Thanks again. Alice California

I am not sure what information I posted on Jane "Neel". However, 1850 census in household of James M King, listed Jane "Neel" age 70, listed as born in Ireland. James M King is documented on marriage license as marrying Margaret "Neal." New information: James M King's brother, Charles King, is married to an Elizabeth "Neal." Source: Civil War record of the son of Charles King [George W King] states that his parents were Charles King and Elizabeth Neal. I have found no further specific information on Jane "Neel" her married name. I am assuming that brothers may have married sisters? And that both Margaret and Elizabeth are daughters of Jane "Neel", maiden name of Jane unknown. Doris, The following address will allow you to view early maps of Pittsburgh and its wards (sorry 1872 is as far back as this site goes). http://digital.library.pitt.edu/maps/browse.html - at top of list click on "1872 atlas -----, this brings up a page with a map and a list of wards, scroll down to 5th, 7th and 8th wards and click on plate 25 ~ this brings up a map of the 3 wards with a list of buildings and land marks associated with this map. Each ward is a different color and its boundaries are indicated by a dotted line ~ where it says "Select Resolution Level" (100%, 50% etc) allows you to enlarge sections of the map, read addresses and names of property owners. When you have the map enlarged you can navigate around on it by clicking areas on the small map on the right. Enjoy Don --- Doris <[email protected]> wrote: > Could someone please tell me what the location the > 5th Ward would be in Pittsburgh in 1860. > > Thank you, > Doris > > > ==== PA-PITTSBURGH Mailing List ==== > If you need to contact the listowner, send an email > to Sue* at: > painter-mcalister-ancestry.comcast.net > > ============================== > Gain access to over two billion names including the > new Immigration > Collection with an Ancestry.com free trial.
