Gosh Cindy, it looks like we now know who to share your "gold mine of information with" and that would be - Norm - since he's in charge of that website. Email Norm <[email protected]> privately with your information so that he can get the Mount Carmel Cemetery of Penn Hills PA - website updated with more information! I just emailed him with my four family relatives whom I know are there, and along with your gold mine of information, His website can become another valuable resource with a current on-line listing for others just like us. Hi Norm Would I be correct the in thinking - that what is currently on the list, at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~njm1/mtcarmel.htm is no complete then and is just waiting to be advised of more people who are buried there - and they you can add them to the list. Whew - I'm hoping that's the case since I didn't see my grandparents or my aunt and uncle that I know are buried there - listed on the message list. I'll Email you with their information so they can be added. Thanks Diane Dunlap On May 17, 2004, at 7:21 AM, njm1 wrote: > Hi Diane, > > That's one of my webpages. Hey folks, I updated the Death Notices pages over the weekend....mostly stuff from the McDonald Outlook (from the SW-Obits list, thanks Victoria). If you have anything, please send it to me, and I'll try to get it up as soon as possible. Sorry for the long delays, just had a ton of stuff to do lately at home, with little or no time to do much else. Cathy & Rod Will get back to you about info that you want. Barb
Rod, You can ride the bus from HOmestead, which is on the way through Oakland, where the University if Pittsburgh, & the Soldiers & Sailors Memorial is. I'm thinking the latter is on Fifth Avenue or Forbes Avenue which are next to the other. And also the Carnegie Museum Library. And the the famous Dinosaur Museum also on either side of the building, & the W PA Genealogical society is there also! Downtown is less than half an hour bus ride, but not sure there's a hotel there. I was pretty sure, but check with a Travel agent. Does anyone know of a hotel there? I used to live in Squirrel Hill which is a hop-skip & Jump from both places! All the places you mention are on the net, so you can probably find an address for them. Does the YMCA have places, or is there any in town, anybody? Downtown PGH? Might check there or I know there's one in East Liverpool, OH an hour away from Pgh? It's only an hour from downtown PGH> Need more info, let me know. Might I also suggest you phone ahead to the library and genealogy rooms to find out about availability of certain records you may want to see when you get there too. My cousin went up there about 10 years ago, to view family records (both her parents are deceased as well as her parents siblings too) and was told that all the records were sealed for 100 years and that she should have invested in a phone call before coming all the way from Texas to Pennsylvania. She was wanting to get a photo of her mom and her dad's birth certificate, had brought her own along with her too - but they would not help her at all. A colleague and I are talking about doing a research trip in the Fall to Pittsburgh - focus on the various library collections (Heinz, Carnegie Mellon, Univ. of Pittsburgh, etc.) and their holdings related to the Civil War. One thing we are trying to get a grasp on is lodging options for a stay of about a week. Anyone got any good suggestions for relatively inexpensive boarding in Pittsburgh? Thanks in advance. Rod
Many different lists that I subscribe to, note in their signature line, the link to the archives. That would be so valuable to have appear in the signature line that appears in all the posts from this too - because newbies to the list - like me, could go look in the archives to see in a question or name of a person has been mentioned in the recent past. Anyways, I'm one to ask when I need a bit of help. Thanks, Diane Duman Dunlap
