Hi Geni Friends, Now that is an interesting twist to a name, taking the first name as a last name. My Grandfather's name tho was Joseph Williams ( unless he has had us all fooled ) from Russia. In the 1910 census shows him and wife Mary both 30 years old with 6 children in Cannonsburg borough, Washington County, Pa. He immigrated in 1886 and Naturalized, his wife immigrated in 1887. Story told is that he came first with his brother to find work in the coal mines and make a home for his wife. Joseph Williams retired from the coal mines in the Vestaburg and Marianna, Pa. area. I would think that it would be The Pittsburgh-Buffalo Company. I was hoping someone in that area could tell me where to search if he recieved a pension and where to write to that company for information. He died at age 66 July 28, 1936 and Mary Williams died at age 74 on June 7, 1943, so she must have recieved a widow's pension. Still hoping some one will recognize this Williams family. You might want to run the name through one of the online translators and see whether you can get a Russian translation for the name. Yes, his name was probably spelled quite different from what you are searching. I spent 3 years searching in Germany for my great grandparents using the name Dittman; only after having a research organization do the research did I find the name there was spelled Dütmann. And that my 6th great grandfather's name was Buller; he having taken the Dütmann name as his wife stood to inherit family property and under the law that was the only way he could marry her. You'll have to search to see what possible names that could have been derived from. If, I can remember, tomorrow I'll ask my daughter-in-law what it could have been in Russia, she was born there. I have some family connections to a Williams family from the McKeesport area.
