Bodies were removed to sec 207 in Mt. Moriah Cem. Only two headstones went along! This is from "Penna. Vital Records, Vol lll page 639. Sec 207 is toward the back, along Cobbs Creek. It doesn't say, but I firmly believe it is a mass grave. Many churches bought sections in MM for the reinterments. Jane
I am trying to determine what happened to the bodies from the 4th Presbyterian Cemetery. Mt Vernon Cemetery isn't responding to mail and Phila Memorial, while helpful, isn't the right place either. Has anyone succeeded in finding out where the bodies were reinterred? Thanks for your time, Kay Schoedler ____________________________________________________________________ Get free email and a permanent address at http://www.amexmail.com/?A=1

There really aren't any cemeteries that were strictly German. ----- Original Message ----- From: "magton" <magton@buffnet.net> To: <PA-PHILA-CEMETERIES-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, September 29, 2000 9:13 AM Subject: [PHILLY-CEMET~] German Cemeteries in Philadelphia > Does anyone know the listing of GERMAN SETTLERS cemeteries ~ particulary settlers from the South Philly area?? Zion and St. Michaels (German Lutheran) Cemetery was located between Lehigh Ave. and Huntington Street, East of 33rd St. Graves in this cemetery were removed to Philadelphia Memorial Park, 124 Phoenixville Pike, Frazer, Chester County, PA and Greenmount Cemetery in 1969 to make way for a new elementary school. I have some relatives who were buried in SM-Z Cemetery but they have not been found at either Philadelphia Memorial or Greenmount (on Front Street, Phila.) Cemeteries. Is there another Greenmount Cemetery in the area? I am searching for the cemetery that my ggrandfather and his family would be buried in. I do not have very much information at all, I just thought that if anyone reading this was going to a cememtery in Philadelphia area, they might keep an eye out for the gravesite of the Hess Family. The particular names that I am searching for are: Edwin Hess, born 1850, Alice Hess (his wife) possibly born in the 1860's, and their may be children buried there also. Thanks very much. Nancy in Virginia. :)
Hi! Am searching for the location of gravesites for the JENNINGS family of Philadelphia. They were members of Christ Church (Episcopal) in Phila. from about 1754. I believe JOHN JENNINGS died in 1801; wife MARY; sons MICHAEL, PERRY, SAMUEL and JOHN; daughters SUZANNE, MARGARET (m JOSEPH DIETZ), SUSANNAH (m JOSEPH CASAR, then m RUSSELL), and HENRIETTA (m CHARLES RENSHAW). Has anyone come across these names? Am also looking to find gravesites for McKEAN family in the Northern Liberties, Phila. They were members of the Presbyterian faith from about 1780. Any help or suggestions would be very welcome. Thanks so much. Fran fvolper@clinicalmkt.com

Where would Lutherans who attended St. Michael's + Zion Lutheran Church be buried ??
Hi Elsa - I am of no help with your inquiry but I wanted to ask you. I am also waiting for the Philadelphia City Archives to mail me a death certificate --- plus, they already cashed my ceck ( a month ago ) . Did they cash your check as well and you are still waiting?? I am also looking for cemeteries in that district so i will let you know if anyone gives me info. Magda magton@buffnet.net
I'm new to the list, and searching for the burial place of Margaret (Hoffman) DEXHEIMER, died on or about 26 July 1861. She and her husband Jacob were Lutheran (German immigrants), and he was a tailor at 714 Vine Street at the time of her death. I've applied for her death certificate to the Philadelphia City Archives but it's a long time coming! And the mail-in look-up service at the Free Library of Philadelphia could not locate a death notice or obituary in their indexes. Wondering if anyone can tell me if there are indexes to any Philadelphia cemeteries, and if there is a cemetery nearby 714 Vine Street that would have an obvious burial place. I believe that she is the lone member of the family to be buried in Philadelphia. I believe that they came to the US in the 1850s, she was 73 when she died, and her husband went to New York City after she died to be near his son. Any advice or suggestions will be gratefully received. Elsa Vorwerk in Allegany County, Maryland
