Article Text: Pittsburg, Feb. 25.--Jamestown is wildly excited over a murder committed last night, the first cold-blooded homicide in the history of Mercer county. During a quarrel over a girl Hugh SEWELL, it is alleged, stabbed Ray FRY to the heart. Ray is the son of William H. FRY, and his assailant, Hugh SEWELL, is the son of Cole SEWELL, who lives north of the house owned by one TUNNISON. FRY lived about one-fourth of a mile this side. Ray FRY left his home soon after 7 o'clock and went to the creek to get some traps in company with F. DEETS. When this was completed they went to TUNNISON's, who keeps bachelor's hall. During the evening SEWELL and FRY had some words concerning a young woman with whom both young men were said to be in love. The lie was passed and then they came to blows. During the scuffle SEWELL, it is said, made a lunge at FRY and struck at his side. FRY gasped and sank to the floor with a moan, cried that he had been stabbed, and became unconscious. SEWELL became almost rigid with horror, and is reported to have attempted to cut his throat and later to drown himself. SEWELL has been arrested, charged with the murder of Ray FRY. The officer will remain at his bedside until he is able to be taken to jail at Mercer. FRY's death was instantaneous. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ PA-Old-News ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NewspaperAbstracts.com - Finding our ancestors in the news! TM http://www.NewspaperAbstracts.com
