Aged Man Believed to Have Attempted Suicide. Article Text: Inability to reach the physical standards demanded by his employment under the new Workmen's Compensation act, is believed to have impelled Adam GRINDER, sixty-three years old, a carpenter at Harrison Brothers, Thirty-sixth and Gray's Ferry avenue, to attempt to end his life by inhaling illuminating gas yesterday. GRINDER, who lived at the house of Charles SIMPSON, 1922 Woodland avenue, made two attempts. He had been rejected by the medical examiners on two counts, "old age" and "bad heart". He became despondent at the thought of being compelled to depend upon others for support. The odor of gas was detected yesterday in his room and he declared it was an accident. The odor was again detected last night and SIMPSON, forcing a way in, found him unconscious. GRINDER was removed to the Philadelphia Hospital, where it is said he will recover. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ PA-Old-News ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NewspaperAbstracts.com - Finding our ancestors in the news!
