Hearing Before the House Committee on Military Affairs. A large delegation was heard by the House Committee on Military Affairs today on the bill to purchase the site of Washington's camp in Valley Forge and create a national park there. Representatives of the Daughters of the Revolution, Daughters of the American Revolution, Society of Colonial Dames, the City of Philadelphia, and the Valley Forge National Park Association spoke. Peter BOYD, of Philadelphia, opened for the Daughters of the Revolution, describing the ground and the prospects of its purchase. The State of Pennsylvania has acquired 127 acres already, which it was willing to turn over to the united States. Mrs. Adeline STERLING, of new York, President General of the Daughters of the Revolution, said the spirit of patriotism at Valley Forge, which had created the nation was the same spirit as had saved it at Gettysburg, and both spots should be preserved. It was harder for a soldier to face starvation than bullets. Mrs. Nathaniel S. KEAG, of Philadelphia, First Vice President of the Daughters of the Revolution, said funds were being collected for a monument at Valley Forge and the ground should be owned by the nation. Mayor ASHBRIDGE, of Philadelphia, spoke of the interest of Philadelphians in the monument. Mrs. J. L. CHAPMAN, Second Vice President of the Daughters of Revolution; Edwin F. NAULTY, of Philadelphia, Secretary of the Valley Forge National Park Association; Mrs. George McCLELLAN, president of the Philadelphia Society of Colonial Dames; Miss BLISS, of the Pennsylvania Society of Colonial Dames, and Mrs. G. R. KENDRICK, of the Quaker City Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, also spoke.
