This was posted by a list member, and I hope one of you can lend a hand.                                                                                            Sandra   My John Quigg was born about 1775 - maybe Ireland, maybe Chester County - don't know. First record of John is in the 1798 Coventry Twp. Tax list as a freeman & shoemaker. The 1800 Tax list has cordwainer, freeman crossed out & writtten over as inmate. The 1800 Coventry census has John with a wife & 2 males 0-10. John is also in Coventry for the 1805 tax list, 1807 Septennial census, 1810 federal census, & 1814 Septennial census. In May 1815, his Coventry estate was administered by wife Elizabeth - with Jacob Shantz & Henry Pennebacker also signing Admin. bond & filing an inventory. Elizabeth signed Letter of Attorney designating Daniel Rhoads to act for her. John Quigg's estate accounting was filed by Daniel Roads in Mar 1818. In May 1818, Elizabeth petitioned the court for guardians for her minor children: Henry & Abraham (my ancestor) - over 14; & Catherine, Peter, Samuel & Elizabeth - minors under 14. Guardians were Peter Miller & Andrew Detwiler (Andrew was husband of Magdalena Rhoads - a d/o John Rhoads). In 1800, John Quigg purchased land in Coventry from Elizabeth Longacre, John Rinehart & Isaac Shantz - widow & administrators for the estate of Peter Longacre. John & wife Elizabeth sold the Coventry property in 1808 to Christian Forgaus. Elizabeth Quigg married Christian Moyer in 1820 at Zion Lutheran Church. In the records of East Vincent Reformed Church: "Elizabeth, wife of Christian Moyer & daughter of John Rhoads, died 17 May 1828, aged 47-4-4." Christian Moyer first married Elizabeth Root, d/o Joseph, before Dec 1800 when Joseph wrote his will. Christian was married to Elizabeth Root until at least 1816 when they sold property. By 1820 census, Christian Moyer was a widower with 4 children in his household. In Dec 1820, he married Elizabeth Quigg. In Oct 1822, Christian's wife Elizabeth (Rhoads) died. Was Elizabeth Quigg (widow of John Quigg) a daughter of John Rhoads? Or was Christian married to 3 different Elizabeths (Root, widow Quigg & Rhoads)? Another possibility for the surname of Elizabeth, widow of John Quigg, is Longacre. John & Elizabeth Quigg purchased property from Elizabeth (Shantz) Longacre (estate of husband Peter Longacre). Elizabeth (Shantz) Longacre's brother, Isaac Shantz, assisted Elizabeth with the settling of Peter Longacre's estate. Elizabeth (Shantz) Longacre's other brother, Jacob Shantz, assisted Elizabeth Quigg with John Quigg's estate. So...maybe Elizabeth, widow of John Quigg was a d/o Peter & Elizabeth (Shantz) Longacre. So I'm looking for info on the above named families, in Chester County, between John Quigg arriving in Coventry in 1798 & early-mid 1800s. These families have interrelationhips & interactions. I'm trying to piece them together in hopes of figuring out the maiden surname of John Quigg's wife. I hope I have not completely confused you.     > From: ferg@ntelos.net > To: snkgenealogy@hotmail.com
