Grace: List of Questions - do you have any of this information? 1) Where & when did Johannes Ault marry Magdalena Siegla? 2) Where did William Parker Zane marry Mary Ault? 3) Did William and Mary get married before or after the 1850 census? 4) Mary Zane had a widow's pension. Do you have a copy of her file? 5) PA Volunteers 118th Regiment organized in Philadelphia in 1862. Do you have a copy of William's enlistment papers? Or his compiled service record? 6) Were the Zanes living in Philadelphia at that time? 7) Where were William & Mary [Ault] Zane living in the 1860 census? 8) Where was Mary [Ault] Zane living in the 1870 census? 9) When/where did Mary [Ault] Zane die? 10) Do you know the birthdates/locations for any of the Zane daughters? 11) What are the Zane daughters' married names? I found a reference to Mary Zane's widow's pension. She applied for it in 1865. Both Joseph and Benjamin Ambler were living in Gwynedd township in Montgomery County, PA, in 1870. Benjamin has Molly Zane, age 9, living with him. That's pretty much as far as I can get without further information. Any little tidbit will help since I have no idea where to look for anything more. Thanks for the morning of fun research! ;>) Ginni Morgan >>> Sandra Ferguson <ferg@ntelos.net> 6/5/12 8:10 AM >>> This was sent me by a list member....can anyone help Grace with her recalcitrant Johann? S. : My great great great grandfather, Johannes (or Johann or John) Ault came to Pennsylvania from Wirtemburg, Germany in the early 1800's. I have not been able to find any record of when he came, nor any mention of him after he arrived, except for a marriage license between him and a second wife, Magdalena Siegla (at least that was the spelling on the certificate.) Also, I can find no record of his first wife, from whom I'm descended, nor how many children he had. I do know that he had one daughter, Mary, who was my great great grandmother. Mary Ault, married William Parker Zane in 1850. I have their marriage certificate, but it doesn't list the parents. (I do know from another source that William Parker Zane was the son of Nathan Zane and Hannah Stancliff.) They had three daughters: Mary, Georgiana, and Kate. William went to war and died in Andersonville prison of "disease and starvation". My dad has his death notification from the US Army. Mary was left destitute. A document we have seen states that one of the older girls lived with the Joseph Ambler family in Springhouse, and the other lived with Benjamin Ambler in Blue Bell, Montgomery County. I think the area became the town of Ambler during this time. The Amblers were Mary's friends who cared for her two daughters. Mary kept Kate with her and worked as a domestic. Kate was my great grandmother and died in 1951?. She provided quite a bit of family information, but not everything needed. Grace G. Rendall KSCE-LIFE!
