The Samuel Painter who married Esther Gilpin was a different Samuel Painter; he was born abt 1710-1720, died in 1801; according to the following two sources, his spouse was Esther Gilpin, they married 1741 and had many children. The Samuel Painter below in your email is a different Samuel; I remember several years ago there were several emails exchanged about how confusing this family is, because each generation had a Samuel, George, Hannah and Esther. There is a book by Dr. Chalfant Painter, abt. 52-54 pages, giving the history and descendency, it is named something like 'History of the Painter family ' or 'Genealogy of the Painter family'.     3. Samuel Painter who married Esther Gilpin was the father of Samuel Painter who married Esther James. Samuel Painter b 5 2mo 1719 according to Darby M.M. records. He died 24 Mar 1801. He married Esther Gilpin, daughter of Joseph and Hannah Glover Gilpin on 5 6mo 1741 at the Concord M.H. in Chester, PA One of their children was: Samuel Painter b 23 8mo 1757 East Bradford, Chester, PA d 4 Dec 1823 m (1) Martha Tate b 1764 d 1808, daughter of William and Ann Nichols Tate. Martha Tate had previously been married in 1781 to Jesse Chandler 1750-1785. Samuel Painter m (2) Esther James b 6 9mo 1757 according to the Goshen M.M. records. She d 16 Sep 1854.
