    3. A kind list member sent this along, thinking it might be of help to a Newlin researcher, even though it is not from Chester Co (it's De). I've looked in my MENDENHALL-NEWLIN ALLIANCE, by Abel, but can't locate who the Joseph and son Ellis are...but, just in case, here 'tis; Sandra 692. Mortgage. 17 4th mo 1776. Ellis Newlin of Christiana Hun. in Co. of Newcastle, yeoman, for better securing payment of herein debt and 5 shillings grant unto James Lea of the Borough of Wilmington in sd Co., merchant, a tract of land and plantation situate in sd Hun. & Co. This is property that Joseph Newlin, father of afsd Ellis, became seized of by virtue of an Indenture, dated 8 April 1755 (Lib/S pp/107), from George James and Alice his wife. It begins by Mill Creek and bounds the lands of Edward Robinson and Jonas Stidham, containing 122 acres w/6 acre allow. In sd Joseph Newlin's Last Will, dated 7 11th mo 1768, he devised sd plantation to his son, afsd Ellis. This is whereas sd Ellis Newlin, by Obligation bearing even date became bound unto sd James Lea in the sum of 800 pounds; conditioned for payment of 400 pounds w/int of 6% on 27 4th mo next.
