Violet - I was aware of the Margaret Lackey in NC who was alive at the time of William Mitchell's Will of 1758. I hadn't found any Margaret Lackey in other counties near Sadsbury in PA during that time period. And I had wondered if, perhaps, he was referring to Margaret of NC. If so, the coincidence of his Will being proven in Sadsbury, Chester Co., PA is amazing. In regard to Jean Mitchell being the grandmother of Margaret Lackey, her married name is unknown. If she were my line then her married name would be Lackey and she would be Alexander's mother since his wife's mother was Ann Rowan who was wife of James Cochran (the Cochranville, Chester Co., PA, Cochrans who migrated from Scotland) and daughter of Cornelius and Ann Rowan who emigrated from Ireland to Chester Co., PA. From Ancestry.com there is an Annie Dashiell, daughter of James Dashiell and Mary Waters of Somerset Co.(?), MD, who married an Alexander Lackey. I thought the Margaret Lackey of NC was from this branch of Lackey's and Dashiell's. Then information from a site on the internet I found somone had listed Mary Waters as the first wife of this James Dashiell, with Annie listed as the daughter....but then they had a second wife, Isabel Mitchell who was born and died in Somerset Co., MD. The coincidence of names is amazing. I haven't yet gotten in touch with the author on that one. Although Margaret Lackey of NC is not the daughter of my Alexander and Ann Lackey. (His wife on her court documents always spelled it Lecky), I have wondered if they are related. On the other hand, there are other Lackey's. There's an Alexander Lackey in Lancaster Co., PA. There was a Henry Lackey in Cumberland Co., PA. There were Lackey's in a couple of other close PA counties. But I've found nothing to indicate connections, although "Alexander" seemed to have been a popular name with all of them. Wish I could help you but as I said in my previous email, what I had written was all I knew about my Alexander Lackey. In the future, though, if I do find additional information - which I think would only be the result of actually researching in person and which I don't plan to do for a couple of years - I will let you know. One other wrinkle regarding Alexander Lackey of Chester Co., PA. The tombstone in the Upper Octorara Presbyterian Cemetery at Parkesburg has the death date of 27 Apr 1747 BUT the name transcribed on that tombstone is "Alexander Luckey." Speaking from experience, old tombstones are often notoriously hard to read, however. I can verify, however, in the Orphans Court proceedings that my Alexander Lackey did die in 1747. It is mentioned in the proceedings from 17 June 1747, pages 5-3 and 5-4 (the Orphans Court records are on Ancestry.com). Also, other people on Ancestry.com show that Alexander Lackey was born in West Fallowfield, Chester Co., PA. But I can find no mention of Lackey, Leckey, or Lecky in Chester County tax lists, etc. Now that I think of it I do remember a Robert Luckey....I'll have to look into that again. Please let me know if I can help you, even with my very limited knowledge of Lackey's, Jeanne Delaney ----- Original Message ----- From: "Violet Guy" <guyj@starpower.net> To: <PA-OLD-CHESTER-L@rootsweb.com>; "Wayne County Jeanne" <wcjeanne@sbcglobal.net> Sent: Thursday, August 31, 2006 9:50 PM Subject: Re: [PaOldC] Re: Wm. & Isabella Mitchell (both d. 1758, Sadsbury);son John, bro Samuel;sis, Jean; Margaret Lackey -Need Help With This Family! > Jeanne: > > I am interested in your LACKEY Family, because in the Quaker Wrightsboro > Settlement, Georgia, where the LACKEY name appears and it is associated > with > MOORE and other Surnames of extreme interest to us.
