    3. Neither Solomon or Jeremiah appear in THE HISTORY OF CHESTER COUNTY PA, by Futhey and Cope, nor do they appear in any area wills, in any way....there are no Allred/Alreds mentioned at all...there are, of course, Yorks, but no Jeremiah.(I was hoping to find them in the wills of parents, but no luck) I checked the marriage certificates from New Garden MM 1704-1799, hoping that Elizabeth had attended the ceremonies of others, with perhaps her parents...but there are NO Yorks included at any New Garden marriages 1704-1799. (I found another possible spelling while looking through NC MM records.....Aldred....so, keep that in mind, too. With this new spelling I rechecked the wills, etc...but, no luck. Sandra "Solomon Allred and Jeremiah York both appear on the 1724 and 1730 tax lists for Chester County, PA. Later, both men show up in North Carolina land records in the 1750's. I am very interested in any information on these two men along with Elizabeth York who "married out of unity" per the New Garden MM records for 1727." -- No virus found in this outgoing message. 2. Hi Sandra: Thanks for checking those records for me. Yes, Allred is spelled a wide variety of ways in those old records. Usually we can figure out if it's "our" Allreds or not with a little more digging. The majority of Allreds who remained in England now spell their name Aldred which is very interesting. One sent me a family tree showing how the name evolved from Allred to Aldred. No one knows why it changed - but it did. From what we can tell, neither man owned land in Pennsylvania - but later York owned land in Virginia, a man we think was Solomon's son owned land in Maryland and all of them owned land in North Carolina bordering each other. We think Elizabeth York who was "out of unity" in 1726 married Solomon Allred - but can't prove it. Solomon Allred was a cousin of Phineas Pemberton - close friend and associate of William Penn. Phineas' father, Ralph Pemberton, and Solomon's mother, Ellen Pemberton Allred, were first cousins. 3. Re: spelling of the name Allred--my 4th ggm who is one of those Randolph Co. NC Allreds, married to William Horner, is Elizabeth ALLDRIDGE on her tombstone. Ooops. However, I don't think that's the only example of that particular "spelling" for the name.
