Nope, I'm not working on the Martin line.....I simply answered what I could to the query about Thomas Martin and I'm afraid I'm not even quite sure what it is you're asking....if it's who owned the house you live in, then that would be in the land records, wouldn't it? I'd think you would follow the 'trail' in that way.......for instance, to whom did the George and Lydia leave the land/house you own to at their death? (hopefully they left it to children rather than selling it)...if left to children, you'd then check to see if the names 'match' up. Generally you go to whatever facility it is that holds the land records, and go step by step, from one owner to the next, looking at the name and date (at least that's how I've personally done it.....to find the 'history' of one piece of land). I checked the 1756 Chester Archives, and note 3 George Martins and 2 George Martens...so, you 'takes your pick'! George Marten owned 25 acres i West Bradford George Marten lived in Charlestown but owned no land George Martin an inmate in East Bradford George Martin lived in Newlin but owned no land George Martin an inmate in Birmingham Here is a will with a Buffington/Martin tie-in; BUFFINGTON, JOHN, bachelor. To sister Mary Cremer 5 shillings. To sister Sarah Buffington 5 shillings. Executor: Brother Thomas.Witnesses: George Martin, tanner, and George Martin. I believe I sent you this will last time, but here it is again....this is not the complete will, so did you get an actual copy from Records and Archives? I sure would....you never know what it might tell you. MARTIN, GEORGE. W. Bradford.December 28, 1774. May 17, 1782.To sons Joseph, John and James and daughters Rachel Hannings, Lydia Dilworth, Mary Woods and Elizabeth Chaffin, 5 shillings each. Mentions having provided for daughter Ann by giving 1/2 of the purchase money of his real estate in Trust for her use. All remainder to wife Mary, also executrix. Wit: Hum'y. Marshall, William England, Christopher Dalton. Have you tried to find these folks in local mm records? If they were Friends, they should be in the records. Futhey and Cope say that the George Martin, son of Thomas and Margery Mendenhall Martin, settled in West Bradford, a little northwest of Marshalton, where he died 6-22-1780.(see his will, above). His children were Joseph, John, James, George, Rachel (m to John Hennings), Lydia (m to James Dilworth), Mary (m ? Wood), and Elizabeth (m to Joseph Passmore and James Chalfant.) This family seems to have stayed put in W. Bradford, and not in Schuylkill..(but, you need to research the folks in Schuylkill). Sandra "Are you working on the Martin line? You may recall about a year ago I sought help with the George and Lydia Martin family as I live in a house built in 1743 by a George and Lydia Martin. The house is just outside of Valley Forge Park in Schuylkill Township, Chester county. I would love to confirm that this is the George and Lydia Buffington Martin you mention as I am descended from Lydia Buffington's sister Ann. It seems as if George and Lydia (Buffington) Martin were in East or West Bradford in the mid 1700's. Rather than here in Schuylkill. Geo. and Lydia Martin of Schuylkill were Quakers, they raised their family here. George died in 1777 or 8. His son James became owner, buying out the interest of siblings including a Bro. John." -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. Version: 7.1.405 / Virus Database: 268.12.8/455 - Release Date: 9/22/2006
