Project No. 4889, Upper Providence Township: Marker No. 66, Malin's Grist Mill This mill was located on the east side of Ridley Creek south of Rose Tree Road midway between that Road and Baltimore Pike. Although Ashmeads history states this mill was on the west side, careful checking of old land plots shows that the mill was on the east side. It was built by Jacob Malin on land owned by his father, Randal Malin, at a date somewhat indefinite but believed to be about 1681. Part of this site passed into the hands of James Smedley and Dr. Jacks, while Stephen Malin and William Malin, a grandson of Randal Malin, erected homes on the original grant about 1785. At one time a saw mill was also erected but there is no trace of same at this time. The site now is owned by Dr. S. Elizabeth Winter. Chandler Eavenson Sautee-Nacoochee, GA
I have a Randall Malin married to Mary Hollingsworth, no dates, with daughter Catherine, b. 1698, who married George Tate, 1721 in Chester Co, PA. They had a son, William, b. 1732 in Mill Creek Hundred, New Castle Co. , Del, who married Ann Nichols in 1763 Kennett MM, Pennsylvania. I show George Tate's gggrandfather as Charles Tate b. 1565 in Butterwick, Lincolnshire, England. Can you confirm or dispel this info? Thanks! Margaret in Oregon
