I am forwarding this email received today about the new site for the digital Pennsylvania Archives (iArchive) and more. As you can see from reading this first news letter from them, the site will not be ready until later this year. New images are being scanned for the Penn archives and 2 additional series (8 and 9) are being added. If you go to the link below, you will also find a blog where more news about the new site is added. Wish they would 'hurry up'! I sure miss those IArchives! Diana ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ FOOTNOTE NEWS October 4 2006 IT'S FOOTNOTE. You might have heard of iArchives. We're starting a history website, and we're calling it Footnote.com. We plan to launch the site towards the end of the year. You're receiving this notice because you are an advisor, friend, or beta testing volunteer. Whichever it is, thank you. Your input is going to make this a better site. SO WHAT IS FOOTNOTE? The web site will contain millions of images of original records. It will also contain various tools for users to annotate, blog, or comment about those records. You can even create web pages about the records you have found interesting. We are feverishly creating examples right now. Then again, some of our employees appear to be a bit feverish all the time. We would like to tell you more about what's going to be on the site, but we have to wait on that. We can tell you that the Pennsylvania Archives will be on the site, and will be free. Does that sound interesting to you? WHAT'S NEW? Justin Schroepfer is new. Justin is our new marketing guy. He is going to help us find customers for the site. He's not your typical Evil Marketing Person. Justin is a straight shooter, despite the fact that he attended the University of Utah. Justin has spoken with many of you and is looking forward to your continued input and feedback about the new Footnote site. WHAT'S NEXT? In the near term, you'll be contacted about beta testing tasks you can help us with. We're going to have a booth at the Northern Utah Genealogy Symposium in Ogden, UT on October 6-7. We would like it if you say hello when you pass our booth. We're also sponsoring a pioneer re-enactment called "Remember the Tears" on Friday and Saturday nights at the Symposium. In January, we'll be at the Jamboree in St George, UT and the American Historical Association Annual Meeting in Atlanta. We expect to have a major announcement, at the time of our launch, about who we'll have with us at the Jamboree event. In the meantime, please check the home page at www.footnote.com<http://www.footnote.com/> for announcements and updates. Thanks again for your interest, and your help. We think you'll be very happy with the site. Signed, THE FOOTNOTE TEAM
