    3. Do you mean you got copies of the forms submitted by the woman, who joined the DAR with these fellas as her ancestors? Those forms should have the sources she lists for the data...one source for each generation....(not a copy of that documentation, but what the documentation is.) Are we talking about the same thing?...and, what is it you're looking to find using the DAR forms? Is it the military 'history' on these fellas? If so, have you checked with the NARA to see what service and/or pension records they have? Sandra I have just received the DAR long forms for Philip RAPP and his son Barnet RAPP, the first a Patriot, the younger a Private. The source is named, but copies of the data are not included, so I'd like to find this but am not sure how to go about it. The source named is my subject line. I have googled this in various forms, but I haven't found Barnet and am sure there is more to find. Does anyone have online sources? Also, is anyone familiar enough with holdings at the Historical Societies of Chester County and of Pennsylvania to know if this type of record might be there? I'm just not familiar enough with this war and the records available to know what to look for (just as I'm getting a handle on Civil War records, I learn of Revolutionary War ancestors--not a bad "problem" to have :)) -- No virus found in this outgoing message. 3. I have just started the process for the DAR recently so can be of some help. First - find http://www.dar.org/ and find your nearest DAR Chapter and contact them and let them know you want to apply for membership. My local chapter membership chairman immediately held a training session for what was needed and looked over what I already had and told me how to fill in the blanks. Don't expect them to do the footwork for you though - they will tell you what you need not how to get it. It is going to boil down to birth, death, and marriage records for each person in your line back to the last authenticated ancestor that you see on the long form. Wills sometimes help if they are very specific. Census records for each decade are a big help too, especially if your family moved a lot so you can authenticate that you have the right people connected in your ancestry. Then run, don't walk to your nearest LDS Library - you can find your nearest one on www.familysearch.org . They are the ones who can help you with how to find the records. They are volunteers and have lots of experience and are wonderfully helpful. They will also have a copy of the latest edition of the Handy Handbook for Genealogists which has all the addresses of where to write for county records in the various places your ancestors lived and also a list of what records they have in hand. If you don't have a nearby LDS Library you can find similar information on the various County web sites online at USGenWeb (that is information on where to write and sometimes actual records are online. Be aware that there may be a lot of gaps as many court houses burned during the Civil War and records were lost so then you will have to start getting alternate sources) Your local DAR can help once you have collected everything you can then they can tell you what some acceptable alternate records might be. An example, especially for older generations that won't have official birth and death records - tombstone inscriptions of birth and death can be acceptable from a reputable source or photographs. When you make copies from alternate sources be sure to copy the title page and publication information so the DAR can assess the credibility of the source. Sandy is absolutely correct that you need to get your ancestor's pension records from NARA. Also find out if his widow ever applied for a pension. NARA had two pages on my ancestor which included very little information - just that he did receive a pension and his date of death. I then ordered his widow's pension application records and his papers were attached to her file - pages and pages with birth, death, and marriage records and all he could remember of his war service - wonderful stuff. But expensive - your DAR representative can tell you by looking at your long form whether you will need to get these records or whether acceptable information is already on file at the DAR. Be sure you tell NARA you want the whole record as you will want to see it all. Otherwise they pick and choose with what they think is significant. Hope this helps you get a start. You probably won't find much online as tons and tons of genealogical information is not up there yet. When you write for records be sure to include full names, dates, and places and possible alternate spellings. It is not any county clerk's job to search for you - you have to give them the information. And then you may still not get what you need. Get to know your cousins in areas where you need information and see if they can help. Also check the Random Acts of Kindness Genealogical Web Site where dozens of people volunteer to do lookups all over the country (got a 150 page will through one of their volunteers when the County Clerk had said no record). I had a cousin in one area where I got back a "no record" on a marriage record from the County Clerk and when the cousin went there he climbed a ladder and got the record right away - the clerks just didn't like to climb ladders!
