I'm not working on the Chester County Allisons but I do have some familiarity with the Francis and Robert Alisons.  Francis apparently did have other children besides his son Francis Jr but Futhey & Cope did not name them in their History of Chester County.  There were many Allisons rattling around southeastern Pennsylvania in the 18th century but the descendants of Francis Alison that I have researched were pretty consistent about spelling their surname with only the one 'ell'.
