Thomas Gourley b. 1752, Belfast, Antrim, IRE., came from Ireland supposedly in 1768 to PA. He married Martha McNeely about 1772 in Scranton, Wackawanna Co., PA. Martha was supposedly born in Lancaster, PA. about 1752. Thomas was a Ranger in Western Maryland, and was promoted a Captain of Co., A 9th PA Rifle Regiment. on March 3, 1777. Captain Gourley was at Valley Forge under Gen. Anthony Wayne. Thomas Gourley and Martha had the following children. William b. 14 Mar 1779 Lancaster Co., PA. Edward b. Abt. 1780 James b. 10 Feb 1782 Robert b. Abt. 1785 Mary (Polly) b. 16 Jan 1787 Martha A. b. Abt. 1788 Sarah b. Abt. 1789 John b. Abt. 1790 Thomas Jr. b. Abt. 1791 Charles McDonnell b. 23 Oct 1792 Samuel G. b. 11 Jan 1795. Records show that he may have resided in Chester, Lancaster, Cumberland Counties. According to Tax records from 1777-1780 he was in Cumberland Township, York County, PA. I have alot of information on his military services, but, hardly any on his personal life. Any information that I can use to further my research on Thomas' father and mother would be great. Thomas' father may have been a John Gourley. He also had brother's Hugh, and John. I went to the Harrisburg, York, and Cumberland County Archives last summer. I did find some tax records in York County. No land records, deeds, were found. Great List!!
